The service was fast and very friendly. I ordered the boneless ribeye and brussel sprouts. The ribeye was fine, but the sprouts were completely burnt. Probably wont be going back.

Given that our goal was to experience the famous Friday Galatoire's lunch, I can't say I was disappointed by the atmosphere. Every Friday the place bustles with local business people who take a late "liquid lunch." At first I was disappointed to be put in the more subdued upstairs area, but was grateful when I realized how deafeningly loud it was downstairs.



We ordered an assortment for the table, starting with a nice and spicy bloody mary. The oysters en brochette (fried and wrapped in bacon) were deadly. Tasty, but a little dry, and one is enough. The crab salad was delicious -- super-tender crab topped with mayo and capers. My friends were raving about the fried veggies of eggplant and potato "chips," which I thought were just OK.



The seafood gumbo was quite nice. The seafood average, but the roux delicious. For the second drink, the dirty martini was fine, but needed to be a little dirtier. Our waiter recommended the fried crab topped with fish or crab as the best thing on the menu. Indeed the crab was incredibly fresh and tender. But still heavy, with all the fried. A friend's fish was just OK.



So all in all, worth the price? Not really, but it was fun to experience part of history in a place that fully encourages you lounge at your own pace.

I have lived in New Orleans my whole life, I do not recommend this place to anyone. There are many more restaurants that are actually worth eating at. Guys have to wear sports coats and cannot take it off. What kind of crap is that? Who actually likes eating with a coat on. And then Galatoires is so small and stuffy, I know the guys are hot and uncomfortable. They say you must be dressed up to eat there but then they had people with saints pajama pants on eating there. I know the city is for the saints and yes we did win the superbowl but seriously guys have to wear a jacket the whole time but yet some could wear pajama pants I mean WTF???

I felt like everytime I turned around i bumped into someone, I guess our table was the worse one to sit at because it was right by the doors by the kitchen. People were bumping into me while I was eating. A few of the servers bumped into me and know that they did but yet I never once got an apology. I feel this place is totally not worth it. The food was way over priced for what you get. I hate to think that Galatoires is known for their New Orleans food when I thought it was a disgrace to New Orleans. Hate that tourist eat there, seriously what are they thinking about us and our food. I can think of many other places that are worth the money and the wait. $20 for a martini, I can go buy everything for less than that to make a good martini at my house. I can say one good thing, the drinks were very strong. I think they make the drinks so strong so that you get totally intoxicted and will spend more money.

We go about 1 every 2 months, But the best is New Year's Eve every year since 1996. Thanks for making it so special..
