I stayed at this halfway house when it was in its old location at 317 E. Valerio in 1981 to 1982 when it was run by Louis Walker with a staff of caring and licensed counselors. This is a very down-to-earth, people-oriented program that is non-threatening and meant to be "your home away from home." The counselors are "there" for you and are at your disposal whenever you should have a problem. The home is conveniently located very proximate to State Street and public transit and also not far from Cottage Hospital should one require any immediate care, above and beyond that provided at the haflway house. There are usually daily "outings" and from what I recall the meals are Vegetarian oriented, with the idea that additives and preservatives are necessarily not good for one's emotional health. However, one should be wary of anyone inadvertenltly "throwing their voice" in these types of "home" situations as this can contribute to emotional issues rather than resolve them. (?)
