One of the best kept secrets is a out of the way park in the University Neighborhood called Morningside, originally called Morningside Heights Park when it was developed in the 1930s. It is located at the end of Broad Street extended just west of Ed Smith Elementary School with limited parking on Broad Street, but side street parking is nearby. Mostly the park is used by dog walkers, joggers, and hikers due to the gated road that goes uphill to the Water Reservoir Tanks visible from below on the Manley Fieldhouse side of the park. Many people have seen the water towers but not close up. As visitors arrive at the north lower section of the park the Morningside Community Gardens with over 50 plots is found at the bottom of the hill. School children and hikers tour the pathways to view the progress of gardeners growing vegetables, fruit, greens, and flowers, which attract numerous birds and butterflies. A Planning Team of volunteers oversees the gardens. Les Ulm, garden plot H-1.
