In 1946, Andover Coils was founded in Lafayette, Indiana. The Company quickly developed the reputation as a leading developer and manufacturer of high voltage coils and transformers. Throughout its history Andover Coils has continued to develop into one of the industry's principal producers of ignition coils for automotive, large industrial engines, motorcycles, aircraft, small stationary engines, magnetic contactors and medical X-ray transformers. In 1956, the company developed proprietary epoxy resin formulations to meet the extreme requirements of advancing high voltage applications. Using this new technology the company produced the original coils for Harley-Davidson’s battery fired ignitions. Today Andover Coils is the sole American producer of aftermarket coils for Harley models 1955-Present. Andover’s epoxy technology also met the challenging requirements of industrial engine ignition applications. The company became the sole supplier of coils for Altronic’s industrial ignitions in the 1960’s and continues to produce aftermarket coils for all industrial engine ignition applications. Andover Coils took another step forward in 1990, when it purchased United Technologies Ignition Coils, who was an OEM supplier to General Motors, Ford and Chrysler in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s. The company is now the sole US manufacturer of aftermarket oil-filled can coils. Andover also retains the original tooling for the production of Delco Remy caps used on all GM Muscle Cars in the 1960’s and 70’s. Andover Coils was purchased in 2007 by a pair of engineers who have re-emphasized the development and production of high quality products for the coil and transformer industry. Andover's superior design and manufacturing capabilities continue to deliver the finest ignition coils in the world.
