Most people do not know that diabetes can affect your eyes. Give us a call today and come in for a comprehensive exam to determine if your eyes may be affected. There are two main types of diabetic retinopathy. These include nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Often times, Dr. Boop is able to diagnose and begin treatment for diabetic retinopathy before you even notice any symptoms of the condition. If you currently have diabetes, it is recommended that you have your eyes checked at minimum of once a year. If you do believe there may be a problem, you can call us anytime for an appointment. If diabetic retinopathy is not diagnosed early, it can lead to vision loss. Early detection of the disease can prevent vision loss in almost all patients. Macular degeneration is a disease that exists in the macula of the eye. The macula is a small area that sits behind the retina at the back of the eye. This area is responsible for helping you see to drive and read. You can test your vision each day by printing out an Amsler grid and looking at it each day.
