Great community, great history, great place, & great price for a movie night out.....

The Apollo Theatre graciously shares a rich history with audiences from the moment you approach it on the street and enter through the doors & lobby. Oberlin College operates and maintains the Apollo Theatre. Founded as the Oberlin Collegiate Institute in 1833 by John Jay Shipherd and Philo Stewart, it is one of the oldest coeducational liberal arts college in the United States and continuously operating coeducational institute of higher learning in the world. Oberlin College was a leader in admitting black men in 1835 and women in 1837. Oberlin, Ohio was founded in approximately 1833 by two (2) religious leaders from neighboring Elyria. The city is named after JF Oberlin (1740–1826), who was known for his well-rounded approach to living life through smarter agriculture, cooperative community development, building a better/stronger economy, as well as his preaching the importance of human spirituality and interconnection. Oberlin is renowned as being a key Underground Railroad location with many historically preserved homes in the area. Please take a moment to read about the Apollo Theatre’s legacy on site or online.

Parking is free. We usually park out front on the street or across the street in parking spots. We went to see the Avengers: Infinity War. The small cinema is great and rarely crowded. The staff is friendly and keeps the cinema clean. The audience is polite and filled with all age demographics, couples, families, and friends taking in a movie and enjoying the vibe.

You can purchase tickets at the concession stand, which is convenient. Prices are very reasonable, and service is amicable. Ticket are $4 per person (any age). Candy, popcorn, & soda pops are standard rates.

Overall, the movie experience at the Apollo Theatre is nearly perfect. Our only issues were the distracting white blinking lights along the corners of the walls & ceiling (possibly more noticeable the further back you sit by row), and the fact that the popcorn has no flavor, barely any salt (if any) and butter upon request only that must be dripped on by a baster with each drop counted. However, the net positives outweigh these minor issues, and we will happily return with our own butter flavored popcorn salt. Next visit, we want to try the delicious looking nachos!

Great vintage theatre but, needs bigger bathrooms and needs to be a bit bigger to get a 5 star. Also the picture and the sound sometimes get messed up.
