Founded in 1967 by Barry and Richard Segal, Jomar Hosiery, Inc began as a South Philadelphia hosiery company. After selling and repackaging hosiery for several years, the brothers came upon the opportunity to purchase the salvage merchandise of a valued Philadelphia department store? As a result of the strong sales and customer interest fostered by the influx of department store goods, Barry and Richard soon moved their operation from the original South Philadelphia storefront to a larger site in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. In its new home, the company expanded into the dress and drape fabrics, domestics and home goods businesses. Management continued to diversify its supply base, contacting other regional department stores, mail-order catalogs and national specialty retailers. In 1995, after much expansion, the company purchased the 125, 000 square foot Richardson Mint building on I and Venango Streets as its flagship store and distribution center. Using I Street as its base, the company opened additional stores throughout the Philadelphia area.
