Went into Blacks for a couple keys and some nuts.
What an experience. Waited a few minutes for someone to recognize my being there, then a grumpy old codger gave me a line as to why they don't have the blank for the car key I needed it had no chip either. Then when I asked him if he had loose nuts, like what was in my hand and got a scowel and a no one does that any more. When I told him I needed 20 he told me to buy a bunch of prepackaged ones or find them somewhere else.
Needless to say, this was the first time I have ever been there and the last.
Always used to shop in locally owned hdwe stores and lived it. This place is why there are so many big box places.

Went to have a window repaired and numerous screens. Excellent customer service and quality work. I liked the attention to detail that the staff gave me. I won't waste my time going to any big box stores, Black's have everything and if they don't they can get it!

Got a lousy cut on a key...didn't work, and then when I held it up with my original, I could see it was a bad cut. Took it back and got excuses based on my original key being a bit worn. I didn't tell them that I had a bit of experience cutting keys and I knew better...They did give me another which I inspected onsite, and it worked. I love independent hardware stores, and if I lived in the area, I'd go there again, but luckily I have a good hardware store in my neighborhood.

The best, by far, of any hardware store I have ever loved. Everything you went there for and things you didn't know you needed. Compartments full of gadgets and clasps and brass and stuff... It's a destination and a place to make you happy just looking around. Trust me. Black's will hook ya up. I wish there was such an experience out in the western US but I have seen no surviving indys here.
