Bottom Line Up Front: Shoddy workmanship, lack of integrity, terrible customer service, and complete lack of responsibility or accountability for any of it on the part of this company. Do business with them at your own risk.

We purchased both a heating and air conditioning unit in 2015 from Spencer Heating and Air. Shortly after the heater was installed we started hearing a loud, banging noise every time the unit would shut off. My wife reported the issue to Brian, the owner. He downplayed it, saying it was normal and alluded that perhaps it was an issue with our vents. Funny that our prior unit never made a noise like this. One three separate occasions, different contractors heard the noise and immediately stated we should have the heater checked. Each time we questioned the noise, Brian or one of his techs said the heater was fine.

In March 2018 our basement flooded when tubing from the unit clogged. We paid Spencer $588 to repair the condenser pump and replace the tubing. The $588 covered the cost of the repairs, as well as a prepaid 1-year maintenance plan (which covered spring and fall cleanings/check-ups for the a/c and heater, as well as any emergency visits). The spring maintenance was never performed.

When Spencer called to schedule fall maintenance on the heater, we asked if the spring maintenance on the A/C unit could be performed in the same visit. They refused and said spring maintenance would need to wait until spring of 2019. In other words, they just decided to blow off their contractual obligation.

Fall maintenance was scheduled for Oct 16th. During the call, my wife confirmed that the check-up/cleaning was included in the pre-paid maintenance plan and was told it was. On the afternoon of September 25th at 3:00 pm, my wife received a call stating that a technician was in the area and could be at our home in 10 minutes to perform the fall maintenance. She said yes. The tech was in our basement for whopping 7 minutes before he walked upstairs and went to his truck to get new filters. He installed new filters and handed my wife a bill for $86.97...for filters that can be bought for $22 on Amazon. Without disclosing ahead of time that the cost of the filters was not included in the service contract. Fine...the cost isn't included, but $86.97? When my wife complained, the tech got pissy and went downstairs and took the filters out and put the dirty ones back in.

Three days after fall the comprehensive 7-minute fall “maintenance” visit, our basement flooded again because of the heating unit. My wife took pictures and texted Brian the owner and got no response. She called a different heating and air conditioning company that is actually competent and responsive. The new company found that the condenser pump was broken (and probably had been for a while based on build up). Several feet of tubing was clogged – literally black. They confirmed that tubing was not fully replaced in March as it should have been by Spencer. Last they found a broken trap that had been patched back together with silicon glue in multiple places and that was being held together with zip ties (I can only guess left over from the quality repair job they did in March). The tech said these things should not have been missed if the unit had been properly inspected three days earlier.

My wife called and texted Spencer Heating and Air multiple times. Brian refused to respond to texts or return phone calls for more more than two weeks. We requested a refund for the "repairs" that were supposedly done in March, and got blown off. We filed a Better Business Bureau Complaint and at this point would be happy getting the bogus service contract refunded. No response from him.

Bottom Line: If you work with this company, just hope everything is perfect. Because if something goes wrong, Spencer is going to leave you hanging in the wind.

Called Saturday night due to my A/C didn't work. have had this company in the past do work for me. Was told they don't do service after hours or weekends any more. picked up phone and found another company who came right out in nsyr. Will never use spencers again.

These guys are a rip off. tried to tell me I needed bigger duct work in my house. I called for two more opinions with air flow testing and found out it was ok for my house. I then decided to drive to there office and to my surprise they had at least three truck loads od old duct work they took out of other people housed in a fenced in area. Don't trust then. ask for another opinion.

had an estimated from these guys way over priced was $1500.00 over everyone else for the same product. Rheem. called another company in north Syracuse who only charged me $4500.00 for a furnace and central air. feel like they were trying to take advantage of me because I am old.

Spencer Heating installed a superb 96% efficient heater for me, first I'll state that I am very happy with it and very warm. The only problem is how it was vented. The furnace was first vented out my basement window with less than a foot from the ground. Thankfully, Brian came back and properly vented it out the brick and higher off the ground. However, during the process, the brick below where they drilled all fell down. they assured us that they would be back quickly to repair the fallen brick and finish the installation. It has been 2 months since that promise. I spoke with Dawn over the past month and she also assured me that it would be taken care of. Until recently Dawn was staying in communication with me about the situation. The brick is still on the ground and the pipes are still sticking straight out my wall.

If I could give a zero I would. My friend called for service on his furnace last night. He was told that he needed a whole new furnace and it would cost him $2,800 to replace. After paying $160 service fee to the guy that came, my friend had a friend come over and all that needed to be done was the line had to be bled. 10 minutes later problem solved. Either they don't know what they're doing or they just tell people they need a new furnace to make profit.

Had a furnace installed in April and only used it a couple times. I went to turn it in two weeks ago just to take the chill out of my house and nothing happened. When I called to have them look at it around 1pm the lady ( who was snippy on the phone) told me it would be a couple day to get to me. I was fine with that. But when the tech showed up at 4pm and didn't leave until 5:30 and told me they were going to charge me because he stayed after ours. I stated it should be under warranty. I called the office again and yet again lady was rude I wont use them again found another company who will take over warren.

I called to make an appointment to have my furnace maintained for the season. I asked if they took competitors coupons and the lady said yes. When the worker finished my furnace I presented him a coupon for $40.00. He looked baffled I told him dawn told me you accept these. he called her to ask then she wanted to talk to me. she stated this was to low a price and she would have to check with the owner and to please hold. she must not of put me on hold because I heard her say what kind of idiot thinks they can get this done for $40.00. I just hung up payed for my service and will never use them again as long as she works there have been using this company for years but not no more. Rude secretary uncalled for.

I called a few months back. to schedule my furnace maintenance. when the day came to have it done no one showed up. I called them back the next day to see what happened and the lady on the phone told me I never made the appointment. I asked was this ( and I said is this dawn) she said yes. I said I made the appointment with you. she told me I was wrong with a big attitude. I then asked to speak with the owner. and she said he was on vacation. she said she would leave him a message. As she hung up I heard her say to another person Good luck with that and she laughed. I decided to change company's because of her rudeness

iNever showed up for scheduled appointment, never returned messages and phone calls. I was unable to talk with anyone after scheduling work and waiting around all day for someone to show up.

had them comer out to do a yearly maintenance on my A/C. when the tech devan came in he went right to my furnace and started taking it apart. he then told me i had a cracked heat exchanger and i would need a new furnace and a/c. for around $8000.00. I called for a second opinion with another company and they found nothing wrong. don't trust this company they are crooks.

I called to have my furnace cleaned yesterday because i found a coupon for $44.95. the lady who answered the phone told me it was for NEW CUSTOMERS only. I explained i was a long time customer. she said sorry. you think they would offer a better deal to keep customers they have already. I decided to try someone else.

first off thought i was calling mel shapess and sons and found out its spencer shapess heating. second i called two days in a row and got an answering machine. I didn't want to leave a message so i called a different company to clean my furnace. funny thing it was an old employee who started his own company.

im in touch with a lawer now over my warrenty they promised me . 1 yr labor and 10 yr parts my furnance is down and i am trying to find some one to fix with warrenty..
