The City of Westwego Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is the primary 9-1-1 provider of advanced life support and transport for the citizens of Westwego, LA. Established in the early 1980s, our service is dedicated to providing emergency services which treat illnesses and injuries that require an urgent medical response, providing out-of-hospital treatment and transport to the appropriate hospitals for further medical treatment. Our medical personnel are dedicated to providing efficient and quality medical care to all of our patients. We currently employ at least 35 personnel (full-time and part-time) who have achieved both national and state certifications in a wide range of emergency medical skills from basic, advanced, and paramedic levels. Additional certifications are held in advanced cardiac life support, pediatrics, and trauma protocols. We operate three fully equipped advanced level ambulances. On average, our service receives approximately 150 – 200 calls for service per month. Each crew is comprised of a duo-Paramedic or a Paramedic/EMT combination to continually provide advanced level care.
