General Info

In 1968 David R. Johnson Sr. founded a professional carpet and upholstery cleaning business servicing Western New England. After 12 years of continued success and a desire to provide a larger scope of cleaning services to his client base, David founded Western New England Fire Restoration in 1980, and headquartered the company in Holyoke, Massachusetts. After a year of rigorous face to face sales & marketing and knowledge that a large majority of insurance companies representing Western Mass clients also represented those clients located in The Berkshires ; in 1981 the company expanded into The Berkshires. Under the leadership of Founder David R. Johnson Sr. Western New England Fire Restoration continued to grow at an aggressive pace and in 1982 began its expansion into yet another region - New York's Capital District. In 1984 with an ever increasing territory, disaster coverage now in two states, and a large majority of that business originating in NY, the decision was made to relocate the company's headquarters to Albany NY and concentrate on The Capital District and its surrounding counties. It was at this time the company also underwent a name change ; Western New England Fire Restoration was now doing business as Professional Fire Restoration Services ( PFRS ). Over the next six years, under the leadership of David Johnson Sr., Professional Fire Restoration Services would come to be known as one of the largest cleaning and disaster restoration companies of its kind specializing in fire, smoke and water damage in Upstate New York. In 1991, continued strong growth lead the companies Founder David R. Johnson Sr. to recruit his son David M. Johnson Jr. ( DJ ), a recent graduate of the University of Massachusetts, with a BA in Economics, as the companies new Vice President of Sales & Marketing. Over the next 10 years, David and his son DJ would lead Professional Fire Restoration Services in unprecedented, year over year growth, until mid April 2000, when DJ became the new President and owner. In 2000, Professional Fire Restoration was 1 of 4 finalists for the Siena College Award for Best Run Family Businesses. In 2003, Professional Fire Restoration acquired a local duct cleaning business and in the following years DJ's profound and unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction have been, and continue to be the driving force behind Professional Fire Restoration's continued growth and success. DJ's father, and the founder of Professional Fire Restoration Services, David R. Johnson, remains an advisor to the company and has been an integral part of its successes. Professional Fire Restoration has a lot of moving parts, and our office manager of 15 years, Stephanie Mahoney, is the glue that makes the day to day business move smoothly, ensuring our customers satisfaction.

We had a house fire this summer. After living in our home for almost 15 years it’s not something you think about or are truly prepared for, we never expected it. When I called, I was greeted by the owner (DJ) whose first question was “Is everybody okay?” that made me truly think how lucky and fortunate I am.

Their response time was phenomenal! The team of professionals had my entire house cleaned in less than 2 days. From unscrewing light bulbs to moving my stove to clean underneath. I was taken back by attention to detail my house received.

When they were complete, it was almost as if the fire never happened!

Would not recommend this company. The owner/president DJ gave my sister certain considerations that he didn't afford me. They allowed my personal belongings to be sold off by an auction house the afternoon after I gave them a date when I would be at their warehouse to pick the items up. I only hope they have a really good attorney.

I'm not one for reviews, but I do feel compelled to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone at PFRS! My home was destroyed, I was terrified, and simply couldn't see my way through it...I'm still amazed. Just .....wow! My home is brand new. Thank you so much. And thank you for your empathy. To the cast and crew!

I would highly recommend Professional Fire Restoration Services. I have heard that sometimes these companies can really rip you off when you are in a jam. PFRS not only did an awesome job and quickly, they came in under their estimate - which was 2000 less than another company quoted us. I came home from grocery shopping to find my basement flooded with storm sewer water. We called my insurance agent and they recommended another company who kept me on hold for 15 minutes then said they could come out tomorrow at 9 am! Our insurance company (and my father in law) both recommended PFRS. They called me back immediately and had a team out in about 45 minutes. Justin and his crew worked very quickly to get rid of all the water and remove everything that was contaminated by the water - including ripping out our carpet. They were done within a couple of hours and said they would come back tomorrow to continue so as not to be working on over-time hours, and so things could dry out. They did an amazing job cleaning everything and taking away what couldn't be cleaned. I am really sensitive to bad smells, so they went over and above cleaning everything to try to help with the sewer odor. Justin was very professional and knowledgable. He gave us good follow up instructions and said there is more than can do if the smell doesn't go away with some time. The bill was accurate and fair.

I call these people to come ve...

I call these people to come verify and witness a water/ possible mold/mildew problem under an area of the roof insurance was getting repaired...someday.I was told they work all the time with my company, they had never had this company deny a mold claim, so if there was mold and rot he knew there would be no problems. They sent out - a salesman?? He "didn't go on roofs", was here to see our ATTIC mold/mildew that I just found and immediately began treating as it was just from the long bought of rains creeping in. He said I was doing all the right things, mold/mildew killer, fans, mildew paint over the dried and cleaned area ( I didn't do all of it so I could have a witness it was there first), and this was within the 3 hours after finding it.It IS just surface, but clearly due to moisture seeping in from damaged roof.Roof under contract so won't be a long battle to keep things dry. He did go on the roof when I said that was the reason I called them, and said yep its a bad spot. But didn't cut into it to see if mold and damp was present. He said they rarely work with my insurance company, they are difficult to deal with, don't like to pay on mold even if caused by a covered damage. ( I don't want them to pay for the mold, just recognise that weather damage THAT HAIL caused it).he was nice but not what I asked for. So the man on the phone was full of baloney, and seems they are more interested in seeing your mold/mildew than being a witness to damage they might be paid to clean up. I guess because they wouldn't get the job, really, so don't care about helping you. Many try to get you into the database saying mold in house ( when not even sure it isn't mildew) because then you might be forced to pay them to certify you are mold free to get insurance. Selfserving! We control moisture carefully, and if needed, would call on ANY other company than this one. SO disappointed they didn't live up to the hype in character. The spot is an enclosed area and can't spread, so once cleaned will be nothing at all. It isn't even tied to the house. So why couldn't they make a hole and peek inside? Possibly I could have paid them to clean it up right then, not let the insurance company laugh because their damage caused it but they will make us prove it. A good reputation doesn't mean lying and not even looking just because you know you won't get big insurance $$ for it. Helping someone should count for something. Poor reaction to this company.
