The New Mexico Livestock Board was formed in 1967 after the merger of the Cattle Sanitary Board and the Sheep Sanitary Board. Also known as NMLB, the board employs more than 120 staff members. It provides patrol services and conducts investigations to ensure the safety and protection of livestock from diseases. In addition, the New Mexico Livestock Board coordinates with government and private sector agencies. The board operates a brand department that offers a variety of books and educational resources. The department also provides online forms and instructions. The New Mexico Livestock Board is an agency of the government of the State of New Mexico.
