- Dr. Xu is a Physiatrist specializing in Interventional Pain and Spine. He is intimately involved in the North American Spine Society where he is a committee and faculty member having taught courses in advanced spinal injection techniques both nationally and internationally across multiple continents. He is also involved in the advancement of evidence based spine care through review and development of clinical guidelines. Dr. Xu’s primary focus is to develop a treatment plan to improve functionality in order to help improve patients’ quality of life. He does this through a combination of conservative and interventional modalities (procedures and surgeries). Dr. Xu treats spine disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbosacral spine, coccyx pain, sacroiliac joint pain, piriformis syndrome, post-laminectomy syndrome, sympathetic pain and CRPS (Complex regional pain syndrome), musculoskeletal conditions (muscle pain, tendinopathy, and joint pain), along with many other conditions through a variety of procedures some of which include:- Epidural steroid injections- Facet injections and medial branch blocks- Radiofrequency ablations including Coolief- Spinal cord stimulator trial and implantation- Shoulder, hip, and knee injections including genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation- Sacroiliac joint injections and radiofrequency ablation- Sympathetic nerve blocks- Piriformis injectionsDr. Xu also performs electromyography (EMG) studies to evaluate for carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy, peripheral neuropathy, as well as cervical and lumbosacral radiculopathies. He is a member of the North American Spine Society, Spine Intervention Society, and American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
