I recently purchased my first home in South Florida and went through the fun process of finding home owners insurance. After calling many many different insurance companies, I found Matt Gardner from Foundation Insurance of Florida to be the most helpful and polite so I decided to go through them, even though their quote was higher than the others I had received. The agent spent tons of time walking me through each portion of the policy and what coverages meant. I felt so much better about the situation after talking to him because I felt I finally understood the process and what everything meant. To me, that was worth paying the extra money. Well, less than two months later we get a notice in the mail from the insurance company saying our policy has been canceled because:

After calling the insurance company and getting an explanation of what happened, we find out our home was over-insured. On the application for insurance, the agent left the amount of the dwelling blank, we specultate, in hopes to get it past the underwriters, while getting himself a nice commission. So in the end, he gains commission, and we have no insurance. So buyers BEWARE. Read every single line on those lengthy policies and make sure everything is filled out correctly so this does not happen to you. If their quote is way more than each other one you get, THERE IS A REASON!
