My last appointment with Dr. Athos was a little over 2 months ago. As usual, it was a good experience. His bedside manner could always use some tweaking, but overall he has taken pretty good care of me. I went in for a recheck this week and I can honestly say it was the worst experience I've had at a doctor's office. Normally, I wouldn't post anything here, but I read the previous post and I have to concur. The first strike was that I had to wait a while (30 minutes), when before I was almost always taken in within 5-10 minutes. The waiting room wasn't even half full and it only holds about 8 people. The woman who had been there for years was no longer in the office. I have to admit, she made the visits very pleasant. She was warm, genuinely helpful, accommodating, always smiled, and never (I mean NEVER) stopped working but she always had a few minutes to ask how I was doing and still kept a high level of professionalism. The new staff seems to take any and all measures to cut themselves off from the patient. And they're rude. One woman snapped at me for my copay before even saying hello. No smiles, no niceties. The doctor was obviously over-stressed and didn't really seem focused on my care. He did ask if I had any other questions or concerns at the end of my visit, but he turned his back on me and walked out the door before I could answer. When I was finishing my visit, the staff was told to do something that they obviously had to idea how to carry out. It made me feel very uncertain about the competency of his office and I almost didn't reschedule. Maybe I can use the time between appointments to find another doctor.

Dr. Athos is, without a doubt, the most knowledgeable and caring physician I have ever known (and I've known many). His specialty is pulmonology but he keeps up on everything... Not only is he is exceptionally skilled and well-informed but he takes a real interest in every patient. I'm sure my mother would not be alive now if it weren't for him. He spends time with each patient, and has been known to sit at a patient's bedside in the hospital all night long. Such dedication is so rare these days. I recommend him without reservation as the best doctor you will ever have!
