- Emergency CareAngle-closure glaucoma, also called narrow-angle glaucoma, is associated with the sudden onset of symptoms such as pain, halos around lights, vision loss, dilated pupils, headaches, red eyes, and nausea/vomiting. The symptoms may last several hours, then disappear, only to recur repeatedly over time. These types of symptoms should be taken seriously to avoid permanent loss of vision; visit an eye care professional or the emergency room immediately. Glaucoma can be treated with surgery, medication, or lasers depending on how severe the condition. First line treatment of glaucoma usually involves medication in the form of eye drops.
- GlaucomaGlaucoma is a term describing a variety of eye disorders related to a build-up of pressure inside the eye. This abnormal pressure can damage the optic nerve, interfering with visual information sent to the brain.
- OphthalmologyAs an eye surgeon, Dr. Petelin is uniquely qualified. He received his medical degree from the University of Arizona and completed his Ophthalmology training at Emory University. Even more importantly, Dr. Petelin is one of only a handful of vision correction specialists fellowship trained in Cornea and Refractive surgery.
- Macular DegenerationAge-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a disease associated with aging that gradually destroys sharp, central vision. Central vision is needed for seeing objects clearly and for common daily tasks such as reading and driving.
- Laser Eye SurgeryCave Creek Lasik - Cave Creek Vision Correction - Cave Creek eye doctor -LASIK vision correction located in Cave Creek
- CataractsDr. Petelin is also a skilled and experienced cataract and lens implant surgeon having performed more than 3000 procedures since 1999. He was one of the first in the region to implant the ReStor multifocal and is one of the few local area surgeons with extensive experience with all four specialty lens implants currently in the US market: Alcon ReStor, AMO Rezoom, Eyonics Crystalens, and the Alcon Acrysof Toric.
- Cataract SurgeryCataract surgery is used to address diminished vision cause by cataracts, and is very successful in doing so. Over three million Americans undergo cataract surgery every year, making it the most frequently conducted surgery in the U.S.
- Eye ExamThe American Academy of Ophthalmology estimates that as many as 95% of diabetics with diabetic retinopathy can avoid significant loss of vision if they receive prompt treatment. Early detection is key, which is why diabetic patients are encouraged to schedule a dilated eye exam annually, or more often.

- Diabetic RetinopathyDiabetic retinopathy is the most common diabetic eye disease and a leading cause of blindness in American adults. It is caused by changes in the blood vessels of the retina.
- Eyelid SurgeryTo ensure that upper eyelid surgery is a medical necessity rather than a cosmetic condition, case managers should consider having the patient take good, high resolution photographs of the eye region. If the upper eyelid margin of the eye crosses the plain of pupil in the photo, then further testing can be done. An ophthalmologist can run a visual field mapping test on the patient. If the patient's visual interference with upper case letters is at 20 percent above horizon, and if taping the patient's eyelids back improves his or her vision 20 degrees above the horizon, then the treatment probably is required.
- BlepharoplastyUsually the removal of excess skin and fat from the eyelids is performed for cosmetic reasons. However, upper blepharoplasty can be medically necessary when the excess skin covers the eyelid margin or deflects the eyelashes downward, impairing the patientï¿ 1/2s vision.
