General Info
Dr. Pastoriza is a physiatrist with specialty training in interventional pain management and new to Interventional Orthopedics at the Centeno- Schultz clinic. Her interests are primarily in the biomechanics of the human body and in the applications of regenerative medicine for a multitude of injuries in an effort to help patients avoid a more invasive operative intervention. She is from Miami, FL and fluent in both English and Spanish. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in Biological Engineering and a minor in Biomechanics. She competed for the University of Florida Track and Field team as a Javelin thrower and suffered a career ending shoulder injury prompting a more personal interest in biomechanics. Her personal experiences led to an interest in research at the Motion Analysis Laboratory in Gainesville, FL wherein analyzing the throwing mechanics of the baseball and football players helped them to perfect their mechanics. Prior to entering medical school, she worked as a computer programmer at the VA hospital in Gainesville, performing gait analysis kinematics at the Neurorehabilitation Research Center which led to expanding the knowledge of the neuroplasticity that occurs after a stroke. She attended Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, FL where she received her medical degree and became an expert in osteopathic manipulations as an adjunct to medical therapies truly taking into consideration all aspects of a patient’s life to help them heal. During this time she was exposed to the healing properties of regenerative medicine after suffering an ankle injury and undergoing a Regenexx procedure to help with instability which helped her avoid a major surgery. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation intertwines all aspects of osteopathy along with focusing on improving function and maintaining the highest quality of life given any diagnosis.
