- Child SupportSpousal Maintenance is different from Child Support and not subject to the same criteria used to determine its necessity, or how much is to be paid.
- Child Custody and VisitationSigning a separation agreement enables a couple to dissolve their marriage and avoid the expense, inconvenience and aggravation that often accompanies litigating their differences in court. An agreement is created that deals with all of the financial aspects of a dissolution of marriage as well as the issues of custody and visitation. When the couple agrees to all the terms, they sign an agreement and are then free to go about living their separate lives. After the passage of at least one year, either person may then file for a "no fault" divorce based on having lived separate and apart for at least one year.

- Spousal SupportSometimes during the course of a marriage, a couple may decide that one spouse will discontinue paid employment to stay at home to take care of the family. When the marriage dissolves, the stay at home spouse may need to return to the workforce, yet find him or herself unemployed and in need of a job training or financial assistance until he or she can become self-supporting. Spousal Maintenance (formerly called Alimony) is the payment of such assistance.

- Real Estate TransactionsIt is customary in a residential real estate transaction on Long Island for the formal contract to be prepared by the attorney for the seller. The contract will set out the names of the parties, identify the property, list the items included in the transaction, provide a date for the closing, and of course set forth the price to be paid. These are the only terms which must be supplied for a contract to be legally sufficient. But a typical residential real estate contract may be ten or more pages long. In addition to other important matters, the contract will include provisions concerning title, zoning restrictions, permits and certificates. Among many other issues, the contract will describe the condition the property must be in at the time the closing takes place. It will address the way payments are to be made and will usually allow the buyer to cancel if he or she cannot obtain a mortgage.
