A HUGE thanks to Ian, Kristy and Smart Dogs for completely changing our puppy experience!  We adopted a 3 month old puppy (Ozzie) in June and by October we realized we were in over our heads. Our puppy is awesome but to help him develop good puppy behavior we needed help.  Ozzie is very smart and was very easy to housebreak but he didn’t listen, was almost impossible to walk on a leash and jumped and nipped at everyone. Initially we chose to have Ian come to our house for training. After the first session (training us and Ozzie), walking him was a pleasure.  The next session we focused on sit/stay - another good experience. We decided that the best thing for Oz would be to send him to Smart Dogs for more concentrated training. The night before Thanksgiving Kristy called and said they had a last-minute cancellation and asked if we wanted to start training. Off we went. We ended up doing a 30-day program. It was very hard to leave Ozzie for that long but we knew it would give him the best chance for success. Kristy sent regular texts with pictures and updates - it was so fun to see his progress. We were excited to pick him up. He came home a calm, non-nipping, non-jumping and truly enjoyable puppy.  We love him even more! A couple of weeks after we completed training, Ian came to our house for a follow up.  We couldn’t be happier with the entire process. It is expensive but this is a great example of you get what you pay for - money very well spent!

In addition to the work they did with Ozzie, Ian spent a lot of time training us. In the future, we hope to have Smart Dogs help us train Ozzie to be a therapy dog.

We reached out to Smart Dogs about our two-year old rescue, Hamilton. We rescued Hamilton as a puppy and he joined his sibling sister, Hugs, who is also a rescue. We had never enrolled Hamilton in outside training thinking it would be completely reasonable to train him ourselves. We were wrong on so many levels. After two years, Hamilton had developed some really undesirable behaviors – enter Smart Dogs. The first day Ian came to our home, Hamilton immediately warmed up to him and immediately started taking to the training. We really liked Ian’s style because he wasn’t trying to train him with tons of treats – he used Hamilton’s regular kibble, when needed, and lots of love and affection. Ian showed us how to work with Hamilton so that we were consistently reinforcing each lesson we had. After three lessons, Hamilton’s progress has been amazing. He sits without even being told and is walking so much better on a leash, waiting, staying – it has been incredible. We highly recommend Ian and Smart Dogs as they have made us see that it doesn’t take an act of God to train a really, really stubborn dog.

We had fostered Daly, a 1 year old Goldendoodle, for a rescue organization, and decided to adopt him after he was returned to us after a couple failed adoptions. He was the sweetest dog I had ever met but Daly had severe separation anxiety. We could not keep him in a crate because he would cry and bark continuously and would try to chew his way out of the crate, damaging the crate and hurting himself in the process. If we left him out for even the shortest time he would chew door trim, rugs, pillows, remote controls, really anything he could find. At first we could leave him with our other dogs for a couple hours if we put everything away but the separation anxiety was so bad that even after 10 minutes alone he would freak out and start destroying our house. I really didn’t know what to do so I did a lot of research on board and train options in our area and really liked Smart Dog’s website. I filled out a contact form and Kristy called me back within a couple hours. We talked for a long time about all of Daly’s issues and she said she knew they could help us. I dropped him off two days later and really felt comfortable right away. I loved that the training facility was attached to their house and that they would be working with Daly throughout the day and night and he would be part of their family. Daly was with Smart Dogs for 17 days and when we went to pick him up he was a totally different dog. Ian and Kristy had given him confidence, taught him basic obedience and Ian had even taught him to run on a treadmill and run a long side a bike. He spent time with me going through everything Daly had learned and taught me what to do with him. That night we put him in his crate to sleep and he was restless for about 15 minutes but after that went right to sleep and slept through the night. He is no longer afraid of the crate and is a happier, more confident dog. I would highly recommend Smart Dogs to anyone who doesn’t know how to handle their dog’s issues. Without Ian and Kristy and their expert training skills, patience and love I don’t know what would have happened with Daly. They are the best! Ian indicated that Daly is so sweet and smart that he would make a great therapy dog and we will be continuing our training in the future with Smart Dogs!

I highly recommend Smart Dogs Training. We are amazed at the results after just one lesson! My dog was driving us crazy with his bad habits, and now he is so well behaved.

We have a 2 year-old Chihuahua and a 1-year old Yorkie-mix who were a NIGHTMARE to walk! They both would bark uncontrollably and aggressively at anyone or anything that came across our pathsor even at someone who was four houses away! It was so bad that many times wed see people walking their dogs or jogging our way and the moment they saw us, theyd immediately make an about-face and go back the direction they came to avoid us. We finally resorted to finding a path in some nearby woods to walk them to spare our neighbors and ourselves from their unruly behavior. Thats pretty bad when youre willing to speed walk through mosquito-infested woods than in your own neighborhood! But thats how stressful and terribly embarrassing it was for us to walk them. Then we came across an ad in the mail for Smart Dogs, looked them up online and decided to give them a call. Were so glad we did! In just ONE VISIT, Kristy taught us how to walk our boys properly and how to establish ourselves as the alpha instead of allowing them to take that lead. She really opened our eyes to what we needed to correct in order to gain a better handle on our dogs. We were impressed with her knowledge about dogs and their psyche. She really knows her stuff! After she left and we walked them later that evening, we were so excited that we wanted our neighbors to come out just to see what good boys they were being! Since then, we've had neighbors actually ask us if they're the same dogs. YES, THEY ARE! Even our mailman paid them a compliment! Thank you so much, Kristy, for giving us much needed relief, for educating us and showing the way! We also really enjoyed meeting you as it felt like we've known you for years! Its so obvious how much you love both dogs and their owners. You really gave us peace of mind and now we really enjoy taking our boys out for walks! Thank you again!

Thank you so much Kristy and Ian. We can't believe how much you have taught Nova in this short time. We were so worried about her biting and her aggression if she couldn't get her way. We had tried everything possible to stop this behavior on our own with no luck. We are so lucky to have found you. Your passion and talent are amazing. We now have our special, smart and sweet addition to our family. We are all very excited to continue her education with you. Thank you.

I rescued Rudy, a 3 yr old Chihuahua, 1 year ago. The shelter described him as special needs. He was obviously abused and living on the streets. He had multiple surgerys to repair a hole in the roof of his mouth that was from either electrocution or a firecracker. He has half of his teeth left. He had a broken left paw that was never treated so now is enlarged and turned out at a 90 degree angle. He also has 2 luxating patellas. (bad knees) So what did we do? We took him in and gave him everything he wanted. He deserved it and we were going to make his life great again. Boy, were we wrong! We created a monster lol! Thank God for Kristi and Smart Dogs Training and Lodging. We unintentionally allowed Rudy to become the alpha in the household. He was controlling us. We fed him when he told us. We got up when he wanted. We played fetch when he wanted. He was ruling the house and worst of all, nipping strangers and us! But the good news is we got help from Kristi! She came to the house for 3 lessons. Rudy is a completely different dog. Even our neighbors have noticed a difference. He is calmer and more relaxed. We know that his training will be on going but he is a pleasure now, not a handful. If you are considering using Smart Dog Training all I can say is dont hesitiate! It is never too late. Everything they do is done with compassion and understanding. Theyre methods are easy to follow. Do exactly what they say!! It works!

The addition of a new dog to our family turned out to be a disaster! At first Norma was a warm, loving puppy but around 8 months she started to show signs of extreme aggression to our 11 year old lab, and that aggression escalated to us as well. We became AFRAID of our own dog. The only option we had was to either keep her caged or give her to a shelter, with the fear of her being euthanized due to her extreme aggression. We were at our wits end.Our daughter in law found Smart Dogs Training and Lodging on the internet and we contacted them. To our relief Kristy was able to come to our house the very same day we called. Our lives changed the moment she walked through our door. After spending an hour with us at home she identified some of the issues that our Norma was exhibiting. With Kristys help we decided the best treatment for Norma and our family was to have her spend time with Kristy and Ian at Smart Dogs Training and Lodging.During Normas time with Ian and Kristy we received daily updates and pictures. They even had us bring over our 11 year old lab Margie, to interact and train with Norma. When we arrived at Smart Dogs Training and Lodgings facilities, we were astonished! We were super impressed by the heated floors, separate suites, training area and the level of loving care and professionalism. It was obvious to us, that we had chosen the right place to change our dogs behavior and save our family. After finishing her time with Kristy and Ian at Smart Dogs Training and Lodging, Ian brought our Normie home. Along with our dramatically changed Norma, Ian sat with us almost two hours helping us to become re-acclimated with her. He went through step by step, the new direction we would take to become proficient in our continued training of Norma. To our surprised they have kept in contact with us and continued to come to the house to reinforce OUR training along with Normas. To be honest we never believed that Norma could change. We though there was no hope. But we are here to tell you that Norma is a DIFFERENT dog! Shes better than we ever hoped she could be.We cant stress enough that these are the people who should work with your dog if you have any issue at all. They are AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME! They love your dog, they love what they do and they are ready to help solve any issue with your dog.Dont hesitate to call themYou wont be sorry. We guarantee you will love them as we do.

I have had dogs my entire life and never had an issue training them. We decided to rescue a dog figuring she would follow the other two and there would be no issues. I discovered after we adopted her that she would not potty. She would go 24-36 hours of not going potty. I thought she was holding it since she probably lived in a crate but then she started to only go on the carpet and not outside. She was ruining my carpet and it became a huge stressor. I would take her out for hours a day with no success. I was seriously contemplating giving her back because after 3 months I just couldn?t see dealing with this for the rest of her life when she is only 3. I decided I would give it one last try and I called Smart Dogs. Kristy came out and taught me so much about all of the cues she was giving me that she thought she was in charge and how important it was to show her I was in charge. Kristy taught me some tools on how to turn this around. I was skeptical that anything could work but I had no other options. I did what Kristy said, consistently, and my dog now goes outside without a leash, when I open the door. She is going potty 3-4 a day and no accidents in the house. It?s so much less stress on everyone and I?m so thrilled that she has learned the manners she was lacking. Thank you so much Smart Dogs for loving my dog enough to teach me how to save her, check up on us to see how she was and encourage me to keep going. Who would have thought that ONE HOUR would change our situation with this dog forever?! It will be the BEST money you ever spend, well worth it! I would hire them again without a second thought.

We have a 2.5 year old mix named Otis that is full of energy. He does not listen well and can be crazy at times. We looked into a few different training programs and were not really sure how beneficial they would be. We came across Smart Dogs and had done some research. We did not see one negative review of this place! We had our first session with Ian and we can already see a change in Otis. Whenever he would go on a walk, he would pull like crazy and lunge at anything from squirrels to leaves. Just after our first session, Otis is a pleasure to walk. He ignores other dogs and animals. Ian is very knowledgable, We cannot wait for our next session and to see what else Ian has to teach us!

i.e.Ian & Kristy are AWESOME! We were on the verge of giving up our French Bulldog, Lola, because of her wild behavior and terrible potty training problems. We made the desperate call to Smart Dogs and our situation dramatically improved after the first visit. We made the decision to let Smart Dogs take Lola into their facility because we have three small children that acted as a distraction for us in the training process. This was an absolute God send!! They taught us how to control Lola's craziness and most importantly how to properly potty train her. Kristy & Ian have taught us to feel confident as owners and we can now enjoy our Lola instead of resenting her! I highly recommend Smart Dogs for first time & seasoned dog owners. We can't begin to thank them enough!! A local favorite, or highly recommended because

i.e., A local favorite, or highly recommended becauseKristy and Ian have truly given our family the best gift: a well behaved dog! Lucy stayed in their beautiful home for a week. They sent us pictures and updates almost daily. It meant so much to know that our dog wasn't only learning, but also getting so much love from Kristy and Ian. Lucy had some major anxiety and "puppy" tendencies and we had tried EVERYTHING! We actually came to the point of we either need to get rid of her or try Smartdogs. We are so happy we chose the latter! She's been home all evening and seems so calm now! We can't thank these amazing people enough!! You can tell this is a true passion for both of them! I would highly recommend them!

Kristy and Ian worked wonders on our little man, Blake. We brought Blake home to our other furry baby, Bella who is 7. They were not getting along at all. Bella was agitated by Blake's "puppy" behavior and Blake was ill mannered. Blake spent 5 days at Kristy and Ian's home. We CANNOT believe the amazing change in him! Blake has settled down considerably. He listens to commands, he does not bother Bella like he used to, he FINALLY sleeps through the night...but most importantly, Blake's screaming and howling when we are not in the room with him has stopped. We are absolutely amazed at the work Kristy and Ian have done with Blake! We went from frustrated puppy parents to happy puppy parents. In fact, we are setting up Bellas time with Smart Dogs Training! We want Blakes big sister to be a good example to him. We will recommend Smart Dogs Training to anyone who will listen!

We cant thank Ian and Kristy enough for saving our Tuckers life! We know that sounds dramatic, but when our rescued dog began to show increasing aggression toward strangers we knew that Tuckers life was at stake. We couldnt take him on walks, have family or friends to visit or trust him in any situation. Ian and Kristy recommended their lodge and learn program to break the cycle of aggression and retrain us to be the leaders in our relationship. We are so grateful that Tucker is back home and the transformation is amazing! I forgot how nice it is to stop and talk to neighbors without fear. We know that we have to keep doing our homework and seeking guidance from them to face challenging situations for Tucker. We will definitely rely on their guaranteed lifetime continued support, but from what we can see already, Tucker has gained the training he needs to have a beautiful life! Thanks so much! Smart Dogs customer service and training is amazing!! We had our 8-month old Rottweiler (Max) for 2 days when we called Smart Dogs for help with crying at night and following commands such as sit, stay, come, etc. After one training session, Max was following commands. We sent him away for the two-week training camp at their facility and were astounded at the results they provided. Max was a new dog! They taught us how to keep up with the training they provided. They did in-home follow ups. They are ALWAYS there if we need them. Their service is outstanding and the cost is worth service they provide. We will not hesitate to use them again. i.e., A local favorite, or highly recommended Our rescue, Dante, was 90% wonderful but 10% impossible. He barked at everything & nothing, had severe anxiety and lacked doggy manners. We worked with a trainer in our home, but hectic work schedules created problems with implementation and consistency leaving us all frustrated. We were at the point of deciding whether or not Dante would be better suited with another family. The Smart Dogs 15-day Lodge & Learn program was our savior. Kristy & Ian have created a doggy palace in their home! While it looks like a country club, it is an elite in-home training facility. Dante was also taken on field trips to test & enforce his new learned skills. He came back to us a new dog! He is obedient, confident, and in more control of his impulses. Who knew our rarely used treadmill would now be a staple of Dantes day? We still have extensive homework, but Smart Dogs laid the foundation we all needed. So, if youre looking for a miracle, revelation or phenomenon, for your dog, dont give up! Send your dog to Ian & Kristy at Smart Dogs. You absolutely will not regret it.

Kristy and Ian at Smart Dogs trained our 4 year old teacup poodle, and we couldnt be happier! We sent Meesha to doggie boot camp, and the results were wonderful. She was a stubborn little 4 lb. spitfire, but with consistency, knowledge, and a firm but gentle touch, Meesha is a calmer, happier, and better dog! Kristy and Ian also provided us with guidance as we transitioned Meesha back home. If you are contemplating dog training, Smart Dogs will undoubtedly provide you with the results you are looking for! ~ Missy & Nick Patti

We recently finished 15 days of Lodge and Learn at Smart Dogs. We are first time dog owners and needed some help with our 10 week old Ozark Mountain Dog, Yogi. He was nipping and biting, chewing on my rugs, the kitchen table, etc. He wouldnt walk on his leash, wouldnt come when we called him, and would not sleep in his crate and would have accidents in the crate. On his first night home he walked on his leash through our entire neighborhood with out any problems at all AND he slept in his crate ALL night long with out ANY accidents!!! Since he has been home he has not chewed on anything but his toys. He is a much calmer dog. I cant say enough nice things about Kristy and Ian. I was apprehensive about leaving our new puppy to strangers. But once I met Kristy and Ian I knew he was in good hands. They are wonderful and really know what they are doing. They make you feel at ease right away. They were very good about communicating with us on Yogis progress. They even sent us pictures of him training. You can tell that Kristy and Ian love what they do and that they truly love each of the dogs they are training. I wouldnt trust Yogi with anyone else!! You will be very happy with Smart Dogs training!!! Thank you, Kristy and Ian!!!

We were so excited when we added our 10 week goldendoodle puppy to our family. After about 2 weeks, I knew we were in need of help. Charli had taken over the house as the alpha dog. She was terrorizing our older dog, nipping at my 6 year old daughter & peeing all over our house. Thank goodness I found Kristy & Ian. Kristy came out & assessed Charli & our family made the decision for Smart Dogs to complete a 10 day lodge & learn for Charli. It was the best decision we made for our family & Charli. Charli is now more disciplined, rings a bell when she has to go out, walks beside me when we go for walks/runs, sits & stays on command. We are so thrilled that Charli is now a well disciplined puppy. Kristy & Ian are miracle workers. I can t say enough good things about them. I would and am recommending them to anyone who has a puppy/dog in need of manners, potty training, etc. It is worth every penny you invest in your family. Thanks Kristy & Ian!
