General Info: Leah J. Hooey, D.O., F.A.A.D, is a clinical assistant professor in the department of dermatology at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Hooey was born in Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Dallas.Dr. Hooey earned her undergraduate degree from Austin College in Sherman, Texas in business administration with a minor in biology, cum laude. She then earned her medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas.She completed a dermatology residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. During her residency, Dr. Hooey received the The Mutasim Humanitarian Award and also served as chief resident in the department of dermatology. Dr. Hooey then completed a dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.At UF Health, Dr. Hooey practices both general dermatology and dermatopathology. Dr. Hooey is passionate about helping her patients who suffer with different types of dermatologic diseases. Her research interests include noninvasive techniques for skin cancer detection. Dr. Hooey enjoys staying active and skis, surfs and scuba dives.
