      The Merced Irrigation District provides a range of water supply and irrigation system services. It owns, operates and maintains recreational areas, dams, reservoirs and hydroelectric facilities. The district acts as an electric utility and serves more than 7,500 customers. The Merced Irrigation District uses its irrigation distribution system for local flood control by routing local foothills runoff and stream floodwater away from populated areas. It provides drainage services to residential, commercial, industrial and government facilities. The district preserves and protects water rights, encourages stable employment, promotes efficient water use through sound conservation practices and supports the careful management of floodwater. The Merced Irrigation District additionally offers fishery services, as well as conducts various solar programs. It provides a variety of educational programs and safety tips.
