I’m a 3 husky owner. This is the only vet my dogs ever been to, I use to lived in Harrington, then I moved to Dover, there is hospital 5 mins always from where I live now but still I only go heaven lake.i think most people work there knows me and my dogs. Spend over $2000 for 3 of my boys neuter, I know their price is higher but I thought that is a lovely place and I trusted the people there so don’t mind to pay extra. I have a neighbor cross street of my house who has a 2 yrs old pit bull. The poor dog never been take care good, It bothers me a lot when I see animal in need or need help, talked with neighbor before so he allowed me to take care of the boy like take him to wash or take him out for walk stuff like that, I found out there are blood inside his ears and he is too strong I couldn’t get check or clean by myself. So I called trying to bring him in see if we can help him feel better. But the lady on the phone answer me at the first time said it’s ok I can bring him in just give a call to make appointment, after I got the owners permission I called to make appointment. I was told that’s I can not bring him in without the owner go with me. There is no way I can ask the owner to go there. If he could. He will not let the poor dog stay at the way for so long. I asked to speak with the manager. I explain to her the situation. I totally understand the position the hospital at that they afriad to take responsibility if something happen. I totally understand, but I want to help just a check nothing seriously so I ask the manager please, please, she give me a very cool answer. “ I can’t circle this with you all the time like this “. ~~”I won’t let my docs touch the dog without the owner here” ~~~~ ” well, manager. Thank you very much for your time to talk to me on the phone, sorry to bother you for like 5 mins maybe. And don’t worry about it Dover animal hospital took care the pit bull,( well I don’t think you worry about it at all ) and U won’t be bother by me anymore cuz I’m not going there again. I would have difficulty recommending this office and the reason, just over a year ago my labrador Lacey developed pyometra and this was just after I had surgery for a rotator cuff tare. I realized the infection for her was dangerous and rushed her over to Haven Lake Animal Hosp. the cost of the surgery which involved spaying her was just over a $1000 I asked if they could split the bill in half due to my being out of work due to the my surgery and I would pay the balance my next pay period. Now this was the clinic I had taken both my dogs too for care and preventive visits. And I would have never asked only I had just had surgery myself the wait would have been only a week or so which I had explained. Not only did the office refuse to consider this, but when I asked if they could prescribe an antibiotic for the infection while trying to find another vet. Dr Audrey Atkins indicated to her staff it went against her hypocratic oath to provide this. Now I am a nurse by trade, I indicated it should go against her hypocratic oath not to treat at all!
I ended up finding another vet. that day Govenors Ave. Animal Hospital who did treat my labrador Lacey with antibiotics and eventually spayed her due to her condition.
PS! I had approach Dr Audrey Adkins at Haven Lake Animal Hospital a year later to explain why I stopped utilizing her clinic, she never even apologized or expressed she was sorry how everything had gone during this emergent situation.

I have been taking my cats there for the last couple of years for their check-ups and shots with no problem.A couple of weeks ago, my male cat had been throwing up the white foam... must have a hairball or something he swallowed didn't agree with him. So he did this excessively for 2 days with no food or water intake, so he went to the vet to get re-hydrated and see what was in his stomach. The vet of *27* years, Dr. Holme said there was a "foreign body" in his stomach that was the culprit. I asked if it was chewed up rubber bands, my Fitbit watch, or part of a cat toy and she replied that it could be a button that he swallowed. She said they were going to "pump him full of laxatives" to see if he passed the object himself. They took an x-ray the next morning and said she needed to remove it manually because he didn't pass it himself. Okay, NECESSARY surgery was needed. I come to find out that the DVM of almost 3 decades can't read an x-ray. She could not decipher the difference between a "button" as she said it could be, and a SHADOW that she said what was viewed. THANKS for causing my cat undo pain by cutting him open and poking and probing unnecessarily!!I called the office manager to complain because they performed unnecessary surgery since the veterinarian herself said it was a shadow on the x-ray, not a lab tech or secretary at the front desk, the VET herself with 27 years experience said is was a shadow she saw. The office manager said she would talk with the owners, her partners, and the vet and would get back to me the next day after my call because I said I shouldn't pay the $1500 for the surgery that my cat did NOT need. Well, I gave her a week without a return call from her. When I called her to voice my displeasure of her lack of follow through, she said the vets there at the clinic felt "it was in the cat's best interest that they perform the surgery for they thought it was **necrotic bowel**..." Way to go!! We went from from a "foreign body" which could have been a button to a shadow which the vet said in her own words she viewed, to needing this to sound medically necessary otherwise my cat would have died if they didn't do the surgery. What a crock of s#!t...I know opinions are like @ssholes, and everyone has one. But I am now a believer of all the other people I have heard that said that Haven Lake's vets perform unnecessary surgeries. Guess it was time for a new vehicle and she needed that months payment paid with the money in my pocket.

we brought our poodle in to see the Doctors at Haven Lake in the summer of 2007 on her death bed, she had gotten very ill overnight and when we woke she couldnt even stand up on her own. We took her in to see the Vet who was Dr. Francis and was advised the only thing that would save her was a transfusion and a long regiment of medications, well of course we agreed and to make a long story short now our little poodle is part boxer and a year later just as healthy and happy as she could be. Dr. Francis and Dr. Koons were very up front as too the expense of all her treatments and very up front telling us there was stll a good chance that the treatments may not work, but thank god they did work and I am extremely happy that we found Haven Lake when we had our emergency.
