There are a few of you who will remember, back in 1979, when Chim-Chiminey Sweepers began. We arrived at your house in a yellow pick-up truck with a shake roofed canopy on the back and wore a top hat on every job.By 1984, the founder, Steve, needed help. Mike was able to juggle a few days a week of helping Chim-Chiminey with other days of taking care of his young daughters. It was a good fit and the odd-ball romance and tradition of the chimney sweep was very appealing. Mike bought the business, truck, top hat and all.Over the years, Mike hired a helper now and then. The business grew to very much a full time job. We began selling wood and pellet stoves out of Mike's garage. Mike attended every training seminar and certification program he could find. He attended the Small Business Development Center courses and in 1996 was named Business of the Year.The year 1996 was pivotal. A roof top fall and a broken leg were very motivating. Mike moved himself up to management in the sweeping business and opened a retail store in Grants Pass: Home Comfort Hearth & Patio. Not one to sit on his laurels, in 2003 he opened a second store in Phoenix.
