It has taken me almost two years to feel half way well enough to be able to sit down and write about Mr. Paparian and the horrible experience after I came out from jail. I found Mr. Paparian from website about a case where he represented a fellow veteran. My wife and I called and met him in the middle of 2013 to discuss a case that we were facing. He was very professional and listened to our case; his analysis of our case was that it will be reasonable doubt, and beyond a doubt it will not be guilty. His fees were reasonable and he represented us to the preliminary hearing. Afterwards, he continued to represent us and constantly assured us that it will be reasonable doubt. He worked on our case and met with us almost every month at the beginning and more as we got closer to trial. We had provided all documents and information he had requested and he told us he would use for our defense. After all of 2014 passed, I started feeling some doubts about his ability to represent both my wife and I, so I requested to hire another attorney. Mr. Paparian referred an attorney whom he said would work well with him on our case. The person was very abrupt, negative and had very little input or ideas to help our case. Instead of focusing on aspects of our case that would be beneficial to us, he constantly focused on things we had no control over and he did not have any solutions to it. It was during the time that the new attorney was brought on that Mr. Paparians actions and demeanor began to changed: He talked less and ask less questions and when questions were ask of him, he gave responses like you have to figure out what to say, just explain to them why this happen. He was no longer actively helping us with information or ideas. Mr. Paparian was no longer acting like an attorney working to help us with our case and more like a bystander just sitting there. After 21 months of preparation, we went to trial. Instead of objecting to things that should not have been allowed in trial, Mr. Paparian himself brought up some of those things which allowed the DA to exaggerate, lie and make false statements on it. During trial when we told Mr. Paparian and the new attorney he brought on that the DA was lying about things as well as misrepresenting things, they both either ignored or said there were nothing they could do. I had written down on paper and passed it to both attorneys about the lies and misrepresentations the DA was making and they both did nothing. In fact, Mr. Paparian told my wife that the DA is allowed to say what he wants and that there is nothing he could do about it. This was Such a big lie and I did not find out until after I had hired an appeal attorney. There were at least six lies that were said by the DA during the final closing that should have been objected to and corrected. Those lies, without objections and corrections were essentially an admission of guilt on things that were false stated by the DA. Those (admissions/lack of objections) overwhelmed the lack of evidence and reasonable doubts; which allowed the jurors to make the hard decision to find us guilty. One of the jurors was a writer and wrote an article stating that she felt really bad and it was a hard decision to find us guilty. Our case has been in appeal for over two years now. Both our appeal attorneys could not believe how Mr. Paparian allowed the DA to make false statements without facts or evidence to back up the statements, and how in the world would a defense attorney himself bring up things in court that did nothing but prejudice against us. Recently I found out that Mr. Paparian had been disciplined and were at one time on probation for his license, he failed to perform legal services competently, maintain funds in a client trust account or promptly pay out funds as requested by a client..Our case was poorly represented, and Mr. Paparian did not provide material that we gave him that he had requested from u
