Dr. Benedict Nwachukwu is an orthopedic surgeon and specialist in hip, knee and shoulder surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City. He is the Co-Director of Clinical Research for the Sports Medicine Institute at HSS and a Clinical Instructor at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Nwachukwu completed his undergraduate work at Columbia University and obtained both his MD and MBA from Harvard. His orthopedic surgery residency was completed at HSS followed by sports medicine fellowship training at the world-renowned Rush University. Dr. Nwachukwu’s specialties include: hip arthroscopy, hip labral repair and reconstruction, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and repair, articular cartilage repair and transplantation, meniscus repair and transplantation, arthroscopic shoulder stabilization/labrum repair and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. He has researched joint preservation techniques and incorporates stem cells and biologics in the management of musculoskeletal disorders. NYC patients recognize that Dr. Nwachukwu is a leader in the field of orthopedics. His exceptional background as a clinician, scholar, athlete, researcher and educator provides a comprehensive foundation for providing innovative, evidence-based solutions for hip, knee and shoulder conditions and injuries. Experience as a four-year starter on Columbia University’s men’s basketball inspired Dr. Nwachukwu’s passion helping athletes and individuals stay in the game. He uses his knowledge of orthopaedic science and excellent bedside manner to provide compassionate care that is also cutting edge. Dr. Nwachukwu’s clinical and research interests are focused on health care outcomes, developing best practices for returning athletes to sport and joint preservation. With over 130 published peer reviewed publications, Dr. Nwachukwu is an internationally recognized orthopedic thought leader and invited conference speaker.
