This is the second time we have gone to St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard for an emergency in the past 6 months We have to say this place is the beyond the best. From entry to the ER to the regular floors to the ICU, these are the most professional, compassionate people that we've ever met. It seems to me that it is hard to be expeditious and compassionate at the same time. Every single person with whom we came into contact was on top of their game. My husband is alive because of the response that we received (three different times in a 12 hour period) from the staff at St. John's. We can't remember all of the names but a big thanks to Laura, Zoey, Mirasol, Victoria, Gene...we just wish we could thank everybody by name. TGFSJ

I was sent to labor and delivery for dizziness. After explaining I was dizzy, the nurse said "so you're here for abdominal pain?" I didn't receive any treatment because they said dizziness wasn't a pregnancy issue, and I was discharged with papers for Braxton hicks contractions. The staff had no idea what they were doing.

I was referred to St John's ER by my doctor for a swollen leg since he couldn't see me. I arrived at 10:15AM on Thursday 1/10/13 and waited until 12:00 for a technician to do an ultrasound. After waiting until 7:30PM for the results, I finally found out the results had been sent to the wrong department and were not forwarded. Another doctor did his own ultrasound and took a blood sample. I was finally released at 8: 15PM. Their diagnosis was a Hematoma, which my regular doctor disagreed with the next day and put me on an antibiotic. Most of my time at the ER was thus spent in the waiting room, which was packed with people having flu. In addition, the heat was not working and it was a very cold windy day with strong drafts blowing through the waiting area every time the door opened. The next day I was down with a bad case of the flu, which was not at all a problem when I went in. Other ER operations try to prevent spread of germs by having people wear face masks and segregating people with communicable diseases from other patients. Why doesn't St. John's ER take these basic steps? They seem oblivious to the fact that we have a major flu outbreak going on at this time. If you have to use St. John's ER, bring your own face mask and warm clothing if the weather is cold!
