I was recommended to Bruce and Joel from a close personal friend and after reviewing their work on social media sites, it was clear they had the skills necessary to complete my exterior facelift on my home. I was seeking a general "clean up" of the home including painting the front of the home, replacing an old side gate and the biggest task, updating my weathered, rotten deck. Bruce and Joel not only finished the tasks I had laid out in my head, they were able to make recommendations on how to best improve the home while keeping the budget in mind. They were very upfront with the quoting process and discussed openly the impact of any changes I requested. They showed up early each day, and cleaned up after themselves every evening. It's clear they are experienced and knowledgeable contractors, and I look forward to working with them again on future projects.

I wanted my kitchen remodeled and was having difficulty finding contractors who would be willing to tailor the job to my needs. The job involved removing/installing cabinets, removing 2 layers of laminate floor, updating electrical, and knocking down some small walls to accommodate the new cabinets and also knocking down a half wall to open up the kitchen. With one phone call to Around The House, Bruce and Joel, came to my house, assessed the project and provided me with an estimate. Based on their prompt response and presentation I hired them. As the project progressed I found they were more like working with family than a contractor. They provided me with personal attention, were flexible and gave me advice on how to save money while arriving at a better outcome. I was particularly pleased on how the porcelain kitchen floor turned out where there was a half wall and a step leading down to the family room. I wanted the half wall removed, the void filled and the floor covered with the same new 9"x47" porcelain planks as the rest of the kitchen. Since I wanted the length of the planks laid across the width of the kitchen, to give the impression of a wider kitchen, it meant that the edge of the step leading to the family room would consist of several 9" plank edges. For them to simply butt the horizontal edges of the tile to the tile on the vertical face of the step would have made the job look unfinished and unprofessional, we needed a non-standard approach. They explained that more expensive options were available but they proposed a less expensive but no less attractive option. Initially they had to customize the step but the end result was beautiful. Overall I am very glad I chose them to do my remodeling project and would recommend them to others.

I called Bruce and Joel to get an estimate to replace the siding on my house as some of it was rotting. They were extremely honest letting me know that most of the siding on my house was good and I only really needed to replace the rotting boards which they could do for me. That honesty immediately sold me on the job.
They did a great job and kept me posted with updates how the project was coming along. I'm definitely going to use them again when I have another project around the house.

Joel and Bruce are great!!! We needed a few small jobs done around the house and they came highly recommended by a friend. My friend was right. They are prompt, reliable, helpful, honest and professional. The work they do is exceptional. We are looking forward to new projects with them.

My parents own a house in Rochester Hills, It was thirty-years house in a very nice subdivision. They retired and move away for a past few years, and the basic house maintenance was neglected. The house was in dire need to remodeling.
I called around a few handyman services and found Bruce. They are very engaging people, and did a great job on my house.
They fixed the rotten window frames, re-did the landscapes, painted the exterior of the house, etc. They are jack-of-all trades.
I would recommend them without hesitation.

Mr. Klenow arrived on the day we agreed. He prepared the surface of the cross with a thorough cleaning. He then applied the paint and left the cross, that is quite large and spans a good portion of our front, looking new. We will keep Around the House Handyman in mind for future work projects. We were desperate to find a "handyman" that could fix a problem that we had with the paneling in our basement. I understand that spring is a very busy time for the home improvement profession, but we just sold our home and wanted everything to be perfect for the new owners. Bruce and Joel bent over backwards to fit us into their crammed schedule. On top of this, they did a fantastic job! These are great guys!!!
Bruce and Joel did a fantastic job remodeling our bathroom. They were professional, friendly, and completed the job in a very timely manner. We are very satisfied with the beautiful results of the tile job, plumbing, installation, cleanliness, and great attitudes of Bruce and Joel.
Bruce and Joel are two amazing men that do superior work. They put hardwood floors in 4 bedrooms and I couldn't be happier. We were planning on putting down laminate, but after having zero luck finding a floor to match my existing hardwood in the hallway, I decided to switch to hardwood (much bigger job). They stepped in and worked hard to get the rooms done. I'm grateful for that. If you need any work done in your home, they come highly recommended. Thanks again!
My roommate and I just moved into our first house in downtown Ferndale. We had several small projects around the house that we needed done and couldn't find someone to commit to helping us. I was recommended Joel and Bruce by a family friend and they came out the next day after I called them. They helped us install our new fridge and dryer. They fixed a light in our bathroom that was not working with the switch. They hung a huge mirror on the wall. They also installed a shelf for my closet, hung some pictures and screwed in some hooks on our bedroom doors. Everything was done in a great amount of time with no big unforeseen circumstances. They were able to do the things that we just were not able to do. They were polite, quick, informative and affordable. I would recommend them to anyone needing things done around the house- big or small.
