MY FAVORITE MICROBREW...If you...

MY FAVORITE MICROBREW...If you like good hearty microbrews this is your place. They have one of the best stouts (my favorite), their food is good basic hearty bar and grill fare at very reasonable prices for the old port.

A must do for travelers and locals alike.

Huge dissappointment for Freeport

My husband, children and I were looking for a nice family place for dinner (August 8th) in Freeport while on our way to Belgrade, Maine. We were actually looking for steamed lobsters - saw the restaurant while driving by - was busy and stopped in . Our waitstaff was slow and not interested in working - when we ordered lthe stemaed lobster dinners they said they were out of lobster dinners but might be able to come up with a few - they came back after a long wait and said they could offer us a few lobster dinners. In the meantime, there was no silverware - so we had to ask to silverware ( just the basic) - then our meals came and the steamers were cold that came with our meal - the lobster was just room temp but they served it with PLASTIC crackers and picks - they didn't even work! After our meal, the bill was $120 with tip!!!!! While the food was edible, it wasn't what we expected, especially in Freeport. Need to improve their waitstaff and make sure the food is hot when served. When in in Belgrade , we got the same steamed lobsters at twice the size, served very hot and for the same money with no tip! Will never eat at Gritty's again! Beware! There are much better places out there!

Since 1988, Gritty McDuff's has been creating fine, handcrafted ales and traditional pub fare. From our humble beginnings as a small brew pub in Portland's Old Port we've grown to become the brew pub of choice for Mainers and folks "from away". From the start, Gritty's was at the forefront of the brewing renaissance in the Maine. Founders Ed Stebbins and Richard Pfeffer had two simple goals in mind: to create a true, English-style pub serving fresh ales and great food, and to have fun doing it. Ever since we opened our doors, the accolades for Gritty McDuff's have been piling up. Gritty's has frequently been awarded the titles of "Maine's Best Brew Pub", "Best Maine Microbrew" and "Best Bar" in statewide polls. Gritty's ales have been repeat winners at the annual Real Ale Festival in Chicago and have also appeared as Featured International Selections at the Great British Beer Festival.Stop in to our Portland, Freeport and Lewiston/Auburn Brew Pubs and treat yourself to the very best in real ale, real food and real Maine hospitality.
