- Dental CareWe feel that by understanding your pet’s dental health care program, we can make it as beneficial as possible for both you and your pet. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our Rochester veterinary dentistry services, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team.
- VaccinationThe importance of vaccinations can’t be understated. At South Towne Veterinary Hospital, we tailor a vaccination program to the individual pet based upon risk assessment and recommendation from the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP). If you have a new kitten or puppy, it’s crucial that you adhere to a vaccination schedule that will protect them from dangerous, yet preventable, illnesses and diseases.
- Nutritional CounselingMost kittens have roundworms, which are intestinal worms that can cause coughing, weight loss, and a potbellied appearance in cats (although they may not cause any symptoms). It is important for kittens to be treated for roundworms, not only to help rid them of the infection but also to prevent you and the rest of your family from becoming infected. Roundworms are a zoonotic parasite, which means they can be transmitted from pets to people. By ensuring that your kitten is properly treated, you can keep your entire family safe.
- Comprehensive ExaminationIf you’re a pet parent, you undoubtedly want your pet to live as long as possible. As pet parents ourselves, we feel the exact same way. That’s why South Towne Veterinary Hospital offers pet wellness exams in Rochester. These routine exams allow us to assess your pet’s overall health and detect if there are any problems that may need to be addressed before they grow into more complicated matters. Our goal is to keep your pet healthy and happy for many years to come. Wellness exams are an integral piece of that mission.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlAll animals must be free of external parasites (fleas and ticks) when admitted for boarding, or must be treated upon admission.
- Behavioral Disorder Treatment
- Pain ManagementOur Rochester animal hospital offers the most advanced anesthetic and pain management protocols that make sure your pet is safe and comfortable throughout any procedure they undergo. We also utilize monitoring devices, including heart and respiratory monitors, to alert us if there is a problem before it becomes too serious. South Towne Veterinary Hospital also has advanced machinery and equipment and we will always be with your pet from the very beginning until the end of the procedure.
- Vomiting Treatment
- Diarrhea Treatment
- Parvovirus Infection TreatmentSchedule your puppy for his or her first exam as soon as possible. Until your puppy has received a series of vaccines, he or she is susceptible to many serious but preventable diseases. We will make sure your new dog is protected against rabies, distemper, and parvovirus, among other diseases. Your puppy will also need to be tested and treated for parasites, which are extremely common in young dogs.
- Feline Retro Virus TreatmentSchedule your kitten for his or her first exam as soon as possible. Until your kitten has received a series of vaccines, he or she is susceptible to many serious but preventable diseases. We will make sure your new pet is protected against rabies and panleukopenia (distemper). Depending on your cat’s risk, we may also advise vaccinating him or her against other diseases, such as feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). In addition, your kitten will need to be tested and treated for parasites, which are common in young cats.
- Hip Dysplasia TreatmentConsider Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) Certification if you want to breed your pet and make sure it is not prone to hip dysplasia. We’ll provide an orthopedic examination and then set your pet up for the x-rays and anesthetic procedure to submit to OFA for certification. Contact our office to learn more about this certification.
- Diabetes Treatment
- Heart Disease TreatmentDogs and cats age far quicker than humans, so it is even more crucial for our companion animals to receive regular exams. In addition, the risks of arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, hormone disorders, and kidney and liver problems all increase with age.
- Periodontal Disease TreatmentIt is very important to keep your pet’s teeth clean of tartar and plaque. South Towne Veterinary Hospital is happy to offer pet dental care in Rochester. Our veterinarians can’t stress enough how important routine preventative care is for pets of all ages. Dental care falls into that category of care. More than 8 out of 10 dogs and cats over 4 years of age suffer from periodontal disease, a condition in which bacteria attack the soft gum tissue.
- Veterinary SurgeryYou most likely have questions about these procedures. Our Rochester pet surgery team is happy to answer them. Contact us for more information.
- Laboratory ServicesWhen you arrive for the surgery in the morning, we will conduct an examination prior to administering anesthesia to make sure there aren't any issues we are unaware of. We also recommend that if your pet hasn’t had any pre-surgical bloodwork completed, they have it done at this time to further check for underlying issues that were not detected during the physical exam. The bloodwork will check several things, including liver and kidney values, blood glucose, complete blood count (CBC), and more. This is an extra precaution we take to ensure there are no problems with the anesthesia.
- X-Ray
- Dental RadiologyOur focus is to provide a broad spectrum of different diagnostic procedures, including ultrasounds (on a referral basis), digital x-rays on-site, dental x-rays, and a laser for surgical procedures that offers numerous benefits, including faster healing, less bleeding, and lowered risk of infection. We also collaborate with a Board-Certified surgeon for advanced orthopedic surgeries that are performed right here at the South Towne Veterinary Hospital with our team.
- BoardingAt South Towne Veterinary Hospital, we are happy to offer pet parents in Rochester grooming and boarding services. Our groomer, Jacquie, has been in the animal field for many years. Starting with grooming, dog showing, obedience, animal rescue, and rehabilitation in the beginning years and evolving to just grooming over the past 10 years. Each dog is given her undivided attention and affection. It is important to her that every dog is groomed on an individual basis and that each dog’s needs are met or specific problems (behavioral, medical, etc.) are addressed with the owners or the doctors.
- GroomingCat grooming is also available, however, due to the nature of stress levels in cats we generally do not bathe them unless it’s necessary or required (because of fleas or serious skin issues).
- Senior Pet CareBefore your dog or cat reaches senior status, we recommend that you bring your pet in for a baseline exam and diagnostic workup. This will give us a record of what’s normal for your pet so we can keep track of any changes. In most cases, we suggest this checkup when your pet turns seven years of age. Thereafter, your senior pet will benefit from more frequent veterinary exams and diagnostic testing.
