I was looking for EXCELLENT bbq in Austin (Round Rock) and I kept hearing this is the place to go!
Let me be the one to tell you THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO!!!
I feel like if you are going to do bbq, you should probably offer bbq. The sauces are good, but more of a honey mustard dijon than a bbq. Also, where I come from, we cook our meat WITH BBQ. This is just smoked meat. Where's the bbq??
I ordered a Thurman plate (ribS - keep reading, there's a reason the S is capitalized- , brisket, sausage) husband ordered ribs and brisket. Got a rancher plate (full of food he doesnt even eat... smh!)
The sausage is amazing tho! My brisket was SUPER dry, but my husbands was moist and yummy! I just was disappointed in the inconsistency of it. My rib loving husband ate HALF his pork rib. (Advertised as rib'S', but you only get one! Which was fine because he didn't care for it anyways!)
The sides are AWFUL!! My husband took a bite of beans and SPIT THEM OUT because "those beans suck!" (His exact words!) The "coleslaw" is literally shredded cabbage soaked in a vinegar mixture. Not your normal coleslaw. Disappointed. The potato salad is like chunky mashed potatoes w some onions. They were alright. The bread that is brought is just a warm half loaf of bread I could buy at walmart. Glad it was free!!
One last thing, very trivial but also extremely uncomfortable is the communal seating. For someone like me, who is an outgoing introvert, I do not like some stranger sitting next to me while I'm eating. No, thanks!
If you are from out of town and want EXCELLENT bbq, save your money and DO NOT GO TO SALT LICK. Please, do some research and choose one of the 50,000 other bbq places around Round Rock/Austin!!

I'm not sure what all the hype over this BBQ is. The sides here are boring and not the best at all, their prices are pretty high, uncomfortable seating, usually a long line, and the BBQ is just ok. For the price, I would much rather go elsewhere.

the place smelled wonderful. what a disappointment the food was. potatoes were ____??? luckwarm at best and flavorless. The beans were pretty good once you salted them. Cole slaw was shredded cabbage drowning in oil. My first bite of lukewarm sausage was a huge bit of gristle, my second (and last) bite of sausage had a large chunk of bone., the prepackaged and cold bread was not too bad but was dry. Overall, I will say that the food was better than the slow, condescending, indifferent service!! Big disappointment - way too expensive and not at all worth the trip or the hype surrounding this place. I was born and raised in Austin and I do know good bbq - this just wasn't it -

Truly the worst BBQ in Texas

Brisket was dry, ribs all fat, sauce was mustard and water, cost $270 for 8 people. Go to Rudy's instead.

This one of those places that ...

This one of those places that appear mouth watery on the ads and of couse the Food Network. But what a letdown when you come in, you pay a fortune when you have to share seats on old picnic tables with noisy staff and fellow customers. They cook the food pretty good, but theres no good seasoning. The sauce is pretty tacky and too thick. The cooks cook everything over the grill----big mistake....most great bbq like ribs have to be cooked in really hot temps. This place is pretty average in my book...instead go to Rudy's or Soulman's BBQ(Dallas).

Best Bar-B-Que in Texas

I have already visited the new Salt Lick in Round Rock, Tx after waiting for it to open for soooo long and I am happy to say it was worth the wait. The food was great, my server, Mark, was fast, friendly and courteous (not to mention really cute) and the atmosphere was just as I had hoped it would be. I brought some out of town guests who were really not into Bar-B-Que and after their experience at the Salt Lick, they have decided that Brisket and Ribs (only from the Salt Lick) are now one their favorite foods.
