- Dental CareDog dental health is extremely important for the overall health of our companions- going far past just oral hygiene. Think of all the chewing, licking, and eating your dog does. Is your dog’s dental health routine enough?
- VaccinationBeginning as early as 6 weeks of age, all pets, indoor and outdoor, need to be vaccinated against the most common contagious illnesses that affect cats and dogs here in the San Antonio area. Some of these diseases in our area are even potentially fatal so bring your pet in twice a year for a thorough veterinary check-up and up-to-date vaccinations.
- Veterinary OphthalmologySimilarly, knowing the breed history of your dog helps your vet know what specific signs and symptoms to look out for and to help you be aware of, too. Because certain breeds are predisposed to certain illnesses and injuries, knowing your pet’s genetic history can help you and your vet stay alert to the signs of these possible occurrences. For example, if your dog is part German Shepherd, we will stay alert to any signs of arthritis or other bone or joint pain, to sensitive digestion or pancreatic issues, and we will recommend regular preventive testing for eye problems, heart issues, and common illnesses like Cushing’s and diabetes.
- Comprehensive ExaminationPerrin-410 Animal Hospital is also a full service animal clinic available for routine care during our regular extended hours- including weekends! We always advocate for preventative wellness care to help your dog or cat avoid disease and illness and keep them with you longer. Our routine wellness plans are designed to help your pet maintain ideal health at any age. Because we believe every pet deserves proper healthcare, there is no charge for preventative wellness exams and consultations.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlHeartworms are spread through infected mosquitoes that transmit the larva into a pet. Heartworm prevention is an easy and affordable way to keep your dog protected. A heartworm 4DX test is required annually or when refilling or changing products. Our 4DX test is a comprehensive test that screens for Heartworms, Ehrlichia, Lymes, and Anaplasmosis which are known to be carried by ticks and can be life-threatening to dogs. When you come in for your visit, your veterinarian will help you choose the right medication for your dog.
- Behavioral Disorder TreatmentFVRCPC: Also known as the feline distemper vaccine is given yearly. If never given before the immunization needs to be boostered once in 3 weeks. FVRCPC protects against (FVR) Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus (feline herpesvirus 1), (C) Calicvirus, (P) Panleukopenia, and (C) Chlamydophila psittaci

- Injury TreatmentVeterinary acupuncture is a type of therapy that helps decrease pain and improve bone and joint health by increasing the activity of a dog or cat’s nervous system and circulatory system. Here at Perrin-410, we use traditional needle acupuncture as well as electro-stimulation to effectively treat pain resulting from arthritis, back injuries, joint overuse, old age, and other causes of chronic pain. Acupuncture is perfectly safe and uses only mild stimulation to help the body reactivate its own healing abilities. Acupuncture is not painful and most pets sit calmly through the typically 30-minute procedure. Some cats or nervous dogs may need to be sedated for veterinary acupuncture, not because of discomfort, but to keep them still enough to correctly target the acupuncture points.
- Leptospirosis TreatmentDHLPP Vaccine: (given yearly) a combo vaccine that protects against (D)distemper- extremely contagious virus, (H)hepatitis, (L) leptospirosis- contagious bacterium, (P)parainfluenza- highly contagious respiratory virus, and (P)parvovirus- extremely contagious virus, difficult to cure.
- Parvovirus Infection Treatment
- Feline Retro Virus TreatmentFeline Leukemia (FeLv): The feline leukemia virus is the second leading cause of death in cats, behind trauma, so yearly vaccinations are strongly encouraged. A feline leukemia test must be performed prior to immunization.
- Bacterial and Viral Infection TreatmentWithout consistent dental care for pets, tartar and plaque buildup on pets’ teeth, and can cause odor, bacterial infection, painful calculi, and gum damage and disease within only a few years or just months. Severe dental infections can even lead to heart failure, kidney failure, liver damage, a suppressed immune system, and injury to other essential organs.
- Ear Infection TreatmentI took my dog here for treatment of an ear infection. They were very friendly over the phone and in person and the office looked very clean and professional. I would absolutely recommend them and will be back.
- Urinary Tract Infection TreatmentNo, there is no medical advantage to letting your pet have one litter; in fact, veterinarians unanimously recommend that pets not intended for breeding be spayed prior to their first heat cycle, which usually occurs around 7-8 months of age. Spaying early can help decrease the chance of mammary tumor development and completely removes any risk of ovarian cancer or uterine infections in female pets. Neutering males early may also decrease aggressive or territorial behaviors and lessens the risk of prostate cancer and urinary tract infections as well.
- Hip Dysplasia TreatmentBone and joint pain can affect your pets just like it affects people! Stiffness, trouble going up and down stairs, difficulty getting up and lying down, and pain when walking are signs of joint or bone pain in your pet. Fortunately, veterinary acupuncture can help restore your pet’s quality of life by relieving pain caused by arthritis, injury, genetic malformations, and other sources of bone/joint stress.
- Diabetes Treatment
- Heart Disease TreatmentIn addition to causing dental problems such as, odor, buildup, bacterial infections, and gum damage and disease, poor dental health is actually directly linked to very serious overall health issues in cats. Severe dental infections can lead to heart failure, kidney failure, liver damage, a suppressed immune system, and the malfunctioning to other essential organs.
- Kidney Disease TreatmentProfessional dental cleaning for pets is particularly important in helping to prevent serious bacterial infections, periodontal disease, and gingivitis, which, when severe, can lead to heart failure, liver damage, kidney failure, and damage to other essential organs, as well as immune system suppression. Healthy teeth are crucial for healthy dogs and cats, and our veterinarians recommend twice yearly dental exams and yearly dental cleanings in addition to continuous at-home dental care. For tips on keeping your pet’s teeth healthy at home, visit our At-Home Dental Care page.
- Periodontal Disease TreatmentPoor dog dental health can lead to very noticeable issues such as bad breath or buildup that causes discoloration of the teeth and gums. In more critical cases, the severity of the internal issues may not be as apparent. Buildup and bacteria can lead to infections and periodontal disease, a disease which causes decay and tooth loss. Research shows that 85% of adult dogs in the United States have some form of periodontal disease. Chronic infections in the oral cavity can also spread harmful bacteria to the bloodstream and infect the heart, lungs, liver and kidneys.
- Wound and Fracture CareThe most common cases we see are bone fracture repairs due to injury (especially in younger pets), but over his 30 years of orthopedic experience, Dr. Ramsey has treated cases of all types. Dr. Ramsey uses a wide variety of medical techniques in conjunction with cutting-edge surgical equipment to perform such procedures as internal plate fixations, pin placements, external fixators, tightrope systems, and other stabilizing and implant procedures.
- Poisoning TreatmentMost cases of cat poisoning occur because people are unaware. Plants are another common cause of cat toxicity emergencies; many common household plants can cause a threat. If your cat has a tendency to catch mice, watch out with pesticides. Mice that have ingested pesticides can pass the poison on to your cat.
- Dental SurgeryBecause all surgical procedures do present a risk, we require a consultation prior to booking surgery and highly recommend (depending on the case) our surgery patients to undergo pre-operative blood work to ensure that no internal issues are present. Collectively, our team of skilled surgeons routinely performs eye surgeries, orthopedic repair procedures, dental surgeries, endoscopic and arthroscopic procedures, and other complex surgical procedures in addition to everyday declaws, spays, and neuters.
- Veterinary SurgeryVeterinary orthopedic surgery is used to repair broken bones and torn ligaments due to injury, to correct developmental problems with the spine, hips, or legs, and to alleviate the most severe symptoms of stress and age on the musculoskeletal system.
- Declawing
- Spaying and NeuteringA lot of misinformation about spays and neuters circulates the pet-owner community from time to time, such as misunderstandings about whether neutering causes personality changes, if the best age for the procedure is early or late, and whether or not females should have at least one litter first. We’re always here to dispel the myths and to help you make the best and safest choices to keep your pet happy and healthy through adolescence and into adulthood!
- Laboratory ServicesThe dog DNA test we offer here at Perrin-410 is the most advanced and accurate genetic test available in veterinary medicine. By taking only a very small amount of blood from your dog (less even than we need for yearly blood work!), professional genetic researchers are able to identify your pup’s ancestry back through three generations with over 90% assured accuracy! That means we can determine the breed of your dog’s parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents! More often than not, the results are really surprising! And of course, since your pup’s DNA is permanent and won’t change over her lifetime, DNA testing is a one-time procedure appropriate for any age, type, or breed of dog. Find out what makes your dog the unique pet she is with a genetic test today!
- X-Ray
- MicrochippingIt’s a terrible thought to think of your dog or cat becoming lost and a common fear of every loving pet owner. Over 10 million cats and dogs are lost or stolen yearly within the United States and only about 20% of dogs and 2% of cats are returned home through shelters according to the American Humane Society. Compared to these sad statistics though, fortunately over 50% of lost pets with microchips are returned home safely. So save yourself some worry and potentially save your pet’s life by having them microchipped today!
- GroomingFor hygiene and comfort, your dog should be bathed about once a month, but no more than every two weeks. Of course, you can always take care of bath time at home. We even sell our Perrin-410 dog shampoo over the counter. Or, if you prefer, you can drop your fur-baby off with us and let us do the work! We do require your dog to be up to date on core vaccines before we provide grooming services. Learn More.
