We have been bringing our 2 cats to Dr. Scharf since they were kittens, almost 20 years now! There has never been a problem with getting an appointment and the office hours are very convenient. Throughout the years we have found Dr. Scharf to be very caring and compassionate with not only our cats but with other animals we have seen him interact with. He seems genuinely concerned with the well-being of all animals. Dr. Scharf also gives you choices on which treatment options there are and takes the time to explain the pros and cons of each and that's very helpful in making a decision. I highly recommend Dr. Scharf and the Animal Hospital of Niskayuna and I truly appreciate all of their care throughout the years.

Dr. Scharf and his staff have been wonderful to my cat Nikki! She is 17 years old and has kidney failure. Last year she stopped eating and she did not do well with appetite stimulants. I read an article about acupuncture helping appetites with the increased circulation from acupuncture. She has been going to Dr. Scharf on the average of twice a month and is doing really well. Her health has not gotten worse and she comes home full of energy. Everyone at the office has been very pleasant and accommodating. I highly recommend this office!

My dog was a patient of Ronald Scharf, Animal Hospital of Niskayuna, for more than 15 years. She loved to visit her doctor; he spoke her language. Throughout those many years, Dr. Scharf gave great guidance regarding my dog's day-to-day care and unforeseen emergencies. He could counsel a practical approach to situations or offer detailed testing, etc. I appreciate the loving manner in which the entire staff tended my canine companion. They were especially gentle with me and my dog in her failing, last months. My thanks to Dr. Scharf and his staff for all the wonderful years of caring.

All five of my pets, both cat and dog, have been patients of Dr. Scharf and his staff for many many years. I found him to be very compassionate and gentle with animals and he always seemed to go the extra mile to make sure that they were probably taken care of and checked out. Because of him I found Heart Worm in one of my cats early on and was able to treat the condition and because of his treatment and recommendations, my older dog was able to happily function even though he had begun to develop ongoing hip problems. He really seemed to go out of his way to help while still being sympathetic to me as the owner of an animal in poor health and seemed genuinely compassionate towards my questions and concerns. Although one of my animals has a slight behavioral problem with aggression, the staff were all very gentle and had a very calming effect on my stressed out and anxious pet. It can be very difficult to find the right vet, and could not be happier in finally choosing AHN.

The vet does not seem to relate to animals at all. He uses a choke leash to hold cats while he examines them. Along with an untrained assistant (he yells instructions after the cat does something), that's dangerous.
