I was in Skokie in a landlord tenant eviction case and I have to say that the public defender was very helpful. He pointed out immediately that no written lease means you are on a 30day notice -no 5day no 10day notice like the landlord had sent me. There is no animal such as a verbal one year lease. It was as simple as that. The second time after the 30 days he pointed out that the landlord had picked an arbitrary date of termination of the lease, a date that was 30 days after I was served the previous month instead of the last day of the next month following the month that the notice was served. The landlord had to start over.
