I suggest try to avoid this company's service. The major reason is the they overcharge you and there are hidden fees they don't tell upfront. I end paying 3 times more than what I am promised over the phone. I am quite dissatisfied, and here is my experience:

My air-conditioner stopped working and my real state agent give me a list of contractors who can do the inspection service. Shavitz was the last on the least. Now I know why. I was going tricked by their high ratings so I am doing some correction here.

At first, I was told over the phone the flat rate of inspection is $120. I thought this is reasonable given the good reviews, more expensive than some contractor but also cheaper than others. The technician Brad came 6 minutes late than scheduled, after some checking he seems not quite certain about where went wrong and made several phone calls the entire time. After about 40 minutes, he said the unit was mounted in the wall and one needs to pull the thing out to check. He claimed it is too heavy and he cannot do it by himself and told me I would pay more. I wasn't expecting this, as I already explained everything clearly over the phone and was told the flat rate is $120. But he said he cannot give me an answer as which part went wrong if I don't pay more. I don't want to waste time here and agreed. The rate is $120 per hour and he promised at most one additional hour is good.

Funny thing happened after that, he deliberately slowed down knowing I would pay him more. He continued to make phone calls in a low voice. I couldn't hear it clearly. One thing for sure is, he seems cannot handle the situation alone. I think the guy through the phone helped him identified the parts that may went wrong. After about 2 hours he finished checking and put back the dismantled parts. I thanked him and asked him to send me the quote later through email for both changing the broken part and the whole unit.

He wouldn't leave and just sat down by table and starting to make phone calls. I asked what he is doing, he said he is trying to get the quote. I said this is not possible because one has to contact the manufacturer to get the details, and you certainly cannot sit down with a phone call. I knew that because I had some other contractors to come over to do this. And it take 1-2 weeks for the manufacturer to get back. Obviously Brad cannot make any further progress, this wasted about 20 minutes. And then he started to ask when we want to schedule next inspection because another group will have to come and check if we want to change the entire unit. He started to make phone calls again. We were nice and shy to ask him to leave, but thought he is just being nice since he charged more. It took another 20 minutes for him to do so. I don't know why this is taking so long, for a while I was just sitting there watching him to browsing the phone. Then it took him another long while to pack and finally print out the bill. The bill comes to about $360, for 2 hours and 45 minutes, where he claimed the $120 was for only first 45 minutes.

I am paying them to check what is wrong with the air-conditioner, not to make phone calls. This is a very high hourly rate, and the technicians are not supposed to do that. This is very unprofessional. 2 weeks after the inspection, I am still not getting the quote from Brad. I didn't bother to ask as I already choose to use other contractors. I complained about my experience and no one cared to reply. I think this is the kind thing you will likely to experience if you use their service. Be cautious of their high rating. I now highly question the authenticity of the ratings.

Cornelius came on time as the first appointment of the day. He quickly found the problem with the humidifier, fixed it, told of the overall condition of the humidifier and was done in 40 minutes. I appreciate his efficient, prompt work.

Jason, did a wonderful job. He was on time, courteous, and informative. He walked me through the procedures and checks he did and let me know what needed to be done NOW and what could wait until the spring check up. He also showed me how to reset the humidifier dials for the winter. He is an excellent tech and a great representative for your company. Dan Creely 1325 Van Buren Des Plaines

Thorough check of my heating system and humidifier. Explained the conditions and considerations about timing of replacement parts, when needed, and expected life of the system. Friendly and efficient. Very satisfied with this furnace inspection and maintenance visit.

Extremely knowledgeable company with great customer service. They always impress me in how they have the expertise and competence of a commercial-focused company, but they give me the individualized attention of a smaller, local company. They have done maintenance work for me and are also undertaking a larger project, and I have nothing but good things to say. The breadth of their services is also extremely helpful and convenient, as I have never had to call anyone else about anything relating to my heating or AC system, including things like the humidifier or modifying ducts or vents. I recommend this company to everyone I know.

I use Shavitz for maintenance and service on two furnaces and air conditioners (and then installed one of each) and have always found service people are excellent, polite, helpful and keep my systems running perfectly. Jason and Glenn were technicians today. The people on the phone are also excellent, helpful, cheerful. I might forget some names - Linda, Sevan, Diana, and in the past, Bronson sold us our systems. I highly recommend this company

Augustin came to our house on Monday, November 4 due to a problem we encountered on November 3 just a few days after Shavitz had cleaned and inspected our furnace for the winter (October 31). On November 3, the furnace was unable to sustain a flame after initial ignition and would cycle on and off continuously.The problem apparently corrected itself after I shut it down for several hours and then turned it on again. However I didn't trust it after that incident althought it had been totally non-problamatic to that point for the five years since it was installed. Augustin came out and did what I felt was a very thorough review of the problem and, while nothing showed up as irregular during his visit, he gave me a complete explanation as to what he did and left me with a renewed sense of confidence in my furnace. I felt very comfortable with the technician's explanation and his professionalism and will request him next year to clean and inspect my furnace.

Jason and Gus from Shavitz did a great job with routine maintenance on my furnace. Both were professional, polite and thorough. Never tried to upsell me any product. They were done under an hour and even tough time to address my questions. Thank you Jason and Gus.
