General Info
Welcome to the website of Church of the Redeemer, a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, in the City of Southfield. Established as a mission of Grace Church, Detroit, over 50 years ago, our purpose is, first and foremost, to worship Almighty God in Word and Sacrament and to share the Good News of the Catholic and Apostolic Faith as received by Episcopal Church, with the surrounding community. One of the first impressions which you will receive when you visit, is of a friendly, welcoming church, which offers a spiritual home to those who are seeking a traditional Anglican/Episcopal religious experience. Here at Redeemer we celebrate the full traditional liturgical services, in a manner associated with Anglo-Catholic practice, according to the 1928 Book of Common Prayer and the Hymnal 1940 ; the Gospel is preached with authority and clarity ; and liturgical music is sung by choir and congregation with enthusiasm and joy. Redeemer is an active parish, in which from September through June all manner of social activities, from Episcopal Church Women, through the Men's Fellowship and Compass Club, a monthly dinner and programme wherein our parishioners and their guests come in from "all points of the compass", point to a congregation which is lively and full of love for God and neighbor. Our building reinforces this, as it is "user friendly", easily accessible by wheelchair, comfortable and lovingly cared for. Since God has given us minds, as well as hearts and souls and voices to praise him, we believe it is our duty to exercise our God given intelligence and participate in the opportunities afforded at this parish for Christian Education. Accordingly, there is a Sunday School which meets during the 10.30 service and an Adult Inquiry Class at 9.15 a.m on Sundays, September through June. Additionally, on Wednesday evenings from September through June, we gather to study Holy Scripture, Early Church Fathers, and our own Anglican/Episcopal history, in order to deepen our understanding of our place within the Universal ( Catholic ) Church. All types of media are at our disposal, including movies which allow us to examine moral and faith questions from different perspectives. As our website continues to develop, you will see, through individual descriptions of the various social clubs and through pictures, the warm and generous spirit which characterizes this congregation. The Parish Post, which is our major vehicle of teaching and news around the parish, is published monthly and will also be available ( in a limited capacity at first ) online. Again, welcome to our parish website. We would be delighted to have you visit us. God willing, we may become the spiritual home you have always been looking for.
