- Dental ExaminationHaving regular dental exams help to spot any trouble in its early stages in order to prevent larger and more expensive treatments in the future. Usually, we fit your dental exam into your cleaning, you may not even notice its being done! Dental exams can only be performed by a dentist, so if you are having your teeth cleaned by a dental hygienist, the doctor will come in separately and perform an exam and confirm any findings. Typically, you should have a dental exam every six months, or more often if the dentist recommends it.
- X-raysDental x-rays are a crucial tool to identify tooth decay, extra teeth, bony defects, cysts, or tumors, and check progress of previous procedures. The latest technology allows for digital x-rays, which reduce radiation exposure by more than 90 percent and provide instant, clear images. - Oral Cancer ScreeningThis is the part of your appointment where diagnoses are made. An oral exam is suggested every six months to help prevent cavities and other dental issues. During each exam, the mouth, head, and neck are all examined to check for abnormalities. Oral cancer screenings are also included as a part of every dental exam performed in our office for all patients.
- Teeth CleaningThe initial visit not only consists of teeth cleaning, but it heavily involves many other aspects including, but not limited to, oral hygiene instruction, mouth habits, and diet and nutrition.
- Fluoride TreatmentPreventative care is the backbone of dentistry, including a variety of treatments: comprehensive exams and dental cleanings which maintain healthy teeth, radiographs which help to diagnose issues beneath the surface, and sealants and fluoride treatments which prevent cavities.
- Dental SealantsDental sealants are a durable layer of resin that flows into the grooves of the teeth to prevent decay. This material can withstand up to 9-10 years after initial replacement. In some cases, dental sealants do pop up on their own; therefore, you should make sure to schedule regular appointments with the dentist for cleanings so they can be checked upon. It’s important to know that if you lose a dental sealant, the protective shield it provides is lost, which makes your teeth more prone to developing cavities.
- Space MaintainersBecause space maintainers are custom-made to fit your mouth by a dental laboratory technician, it takes two separate appointments to complete the delivery of a space maintainer. In the first appointment, we will take an impression of the teeth and send it to the lab to make the appliance. 2-3 weeks later in the second appointment, we will assess the proper fit of the space maintainer in the mouth and then cement it with a fluoride releasing cement.
- Fillings
- Resin CompositeThe veneers are ideal solutions for patients with misshapen teeth. The doctor fits the porcelain veneer over the misshapen tooth, thereby effectively rectifying the shape issue. Redstone Dental Center offers veneer treatment in two methods, direct and indirect. In the first method, the dentist attaches a standard shape veneer with composite resin. In the second method, the dentist first takes an impression of the tooth and attaches a temporary veneer for an immediate solution. In three to four weeks, the custom veneer is ready at the laboratory. Made with porcelain or pressed ceramic, the custom veneers have balanced esthetic value. The dentist then attaches the veneer at the second appointment.
- VeneersAlthough crowns serve the same purpose, the procedure is slightly different. In attaching veneers, the removal of tooth material is lesser than the crowns. Also, the procedure is more comfortable than attaching crowns. Patients with large teeth fillings and less tooth structure are the best candidates for the veneers. People with excessively pointy teeth also benefit greatly from the veneer treatment.
- CrownsThese are the best replacement teeth options for the badly damaged ones. In fact, the crowns can also fill missing teeth spaces. The crown (also called cap) covers the damaged tooth in entirety, thereby improving the appearance and shape of the teeth drastically.
- BridgesA dental bridge is a form of multiple crowns which are attached to an artificial tooth in the center to replace a missing tooth. The procedure for a dental bridge is very similar to that of a crown; however, it is more time consuming and actually creates the look and function of a real tooth which was previously missing. Just like dental crowns, dental bridges can be made of different materials. Our office most often uses zirconia to create a strong, tooth like crown, but other materials such as gold, or porcelain/ceramic is available at your request.
- Restorative DentistrySilver diamine fluoride, otherwise referred to as SDF, is an antimicrobial type of fluoride used in restorative dentistry to help slow the progress of existing decay on the teeth. It is applied topically to the tooth to treat mild levels of decay in a non-invasive, fast, and painless manner. Though a very helpful tool in the pediatric dental office, SDF cannot replace traditional restorative treatment such as fillings. It is usually used on pre-cooperative patients who may not be able to sit through more extensive restorative treatment. In other words, SDF buys time for the tooth by slowing the rate of decay until conditions are right for further restorative treatment.
- PulpotomyA durable restoration applied to primary/baby teeth that have been deeply decayed, often after the tooth undergoes a pulpotomy/pulp therapy. This provides protection for the tooth and maintains a child’s dentition as he or she develops permanent teeth. Crowns may be made of stainless steel, or other materials such as zirconia, as needed. - Root Canal TreatmentIt is a common misconception that a root canal is something to avoid at all costs due to it being painful. While this may have been the case decades ago, things are much different today. Having a root canal done is no more uncomfortable than having a cavity filled. In some cases, we even find the patient falling asleep during the procedure!
- Deep CleaningIf you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, you may hear one of our doctors recommend a deep cleaning to you. Deep cleanings are more advanced and in depth than your routine cleanings, and they are designed to remove any calculus or debris that have been present in the mouth for extended periods of time. If plaque is left on the teeth for too long, it hardens into calculus or tartar. The presence of calculus on the teeth irritates the gums causing them to pull away from the teeth creating deep pockets that trap even more food and plaque. When this happens, it is known as periodontal disease or periodontitis. Typically, a deep cleaning is done in two sessions/appointments where the left and right side of the mouth are done separately. This is because to perform a deep cleaning, the area being cleaning must be numbed with local anesthesia to ensure the comfort of the patient. It is usually more manageable to clean one side at a time with this considered.
- DenturesDr. Bui uses the latest denture technology to improve her patients their smile and bite. The dentures are removable replacement teeth most suitable when most of the teeth are absent. The two kinds of dentures are complete and partial ones. When you have a set of subsequent natural teeth, the partial ones are useful. The complete dentures replace all teeth.
- OverdenturesOverdentures are a form of removable denture that is held in the mouth with the support of multiple implants as opposed to traditional dentures which are held in place with adhesive. The process for receiving overdentures is longer in duration that receiving traditional dentures as you must allow the body time to heal the implants before the denture can be worn.
- Dental ImplantsDental implants are designed to last a lifetime with proper home care and are a great solution to replace missing teeth.
- Oral Surgery
- Tooth ExtractionsPatients who may have lost a tooth a long time ago or are in need of a tooth extraction may benefit from dental implants to fill the empty space and restore the look and function of natural dentition.
- Bone GraftingRegardless of their age, most people are a good candidate for dental implants so long as they are in good physical and dental health, and have a desire to replace a missing tooth. In cases where a tooth has been missing for quite some time, there may already be bone loss in the area which may require some pre-surgical bone grafting to improve the rate of success for dental implant placement. One factor that is likely to decrease the success of dental implants is if the patient is a smoker. If you are trying to decide if dental implants are good for you, our doctors are happy to consult with you and discuss treatment plans and options. Please call the office at (781)438-0345 for your complimentary consult for dental implants to determine your custom treatment plan.
