General Info
Imaging provides procedures used in diagnosis and therapy of a wide range of conditions. The Imaging staff is trained to provide education and explanations of the procedures, respect patient privacy, comfort and reassure patients who are having procedures performed. A physician’s office schedules imaging appointments with the Imaging Department. The department serves as the clinical site for the two-year DCH School of Radiology and the one-year DCH Sonography Program.

Ruby Tyler Parkway Imaging DCH also has Imaging services at the Ruby Tyler Parkway location beside SpineCare. Ruby Tyler Parkway has a 16-slice CT scanner, a 1.5 Tesla MRI system and a digital x-ray room. This location is an additional choice for physicians and patients. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) utilizes strong magnetic fields and radio frequency waves to produce high-resolution, diagnostic images of the body. MRI is especially useful in the evaluation of soft tissues and blood vessels. DCH Regional Medical Center has two 1.5 Tesla short-bore scanners which significantly reduces the anxiety associated with older conventional machines. A 3.0 Tesla system is now operational in Phelps Outpatient Imaging. Computed Tomography (CT scans) Computed Tomography produces a precise reconstructed image of a particular area in a body using radiation. The data may be manipulated to produce images in many directions, including three-dimensional formations. Currently, DCH Regional Medical Center has six CT scanners. One 16-slice scanner, one 8-slice scanner, one dual slice and three single slice scanners. Ultrasound Ultrasound procedures use inaudible sound to produce images or photographs of organs or tissue in the body. Ultrasounds are performed in the Outpatient Imaging Department from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Inpatient ultrasound procedures are performed from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. A technologist is on-call after hours if needed. Nuclear Medicine Nuclear Medicine “scans” are used to diagnose certain conditions, including tumors and coronary artery disease. In nuclear medicine procedures, a radioactive agent is injected into the patient, or inhaled, in order to make a diagnosis. Nuclear medicine scanning tests are performed in the Outpatient Imaging Department from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Inpatient procedures are performed from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. A technologist is on-call during the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift. Digital Mammography A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast used in the detection of breast cancer. Digital mammography makes the mammography experience quicker and provides a digital image for review. This digital image has been reported to be more sensitive in detecting early breast cancer. The Outpatient Imaging Department performs mammograms from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Interventional Radiology (IR) Services (Angio Lab) IR services are angiograms, angioplasty and stent placement in blood vessels (except those in the heart, which are done by cardiologists). IR services are state-of-the-art treatments to detect and clear blockages in the arteries in the legs. Four interventional radiologists provide IR services Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. A team is on-call 24 hours a day for emergencies.
Location
