"Lori B." you stated on here and I quote you, " If you love animals, you DO NOT want anything to do with this place. They are left in dirty cages with moldy food. Tempatures in the 30's and doors left open and completely off the kennels with no blankets for the dogs. If they do have blankets they have been there for days and are covered in feces and urine. The animals get minimal care. If it wasn't for volunteers, those dogs would never get out of thier cages. This place is horrific when it comes to daily care of these animals. And there is no staff interaction with the dogs. PLEASE ADOPT ANIMALS AWAY FROM THIS NIGHTMARE. AND NEVER NEVER TAKE ANOTHER ONE THERE. PLEASE!!!!!" This was not my experience AT ALL. Just the opposite but the reason I am leaving a rating is to ask why you would tell people not to adopt from this place if it, according to you, does not take care of it's animals. I would think that would be the #1 reason to go then! Give those "poorly taken care of" animals out of there. But, back to reality. I adopted my Mickey there back in 2003. He was perfect for me and I wish I had thought to adopt his pal he was hanging out with but it never crossed my mind. Mickey grew up an only child which I regret. The staff there were so sad to see him leave as he made his mark on everyone's heart there. I am now in the stages of adopting again and Stray Haven will be my 1st stop. Even if it's as despicable as you say, animals need homes. I will adopt from here before anywhere else.

Stray Haven is a wonderful place. They really care about the animals and the staff are very kind. All the cages are clean and well looked after. All the animals are treated with the best respect. I started volunteering there and am very happy with it. Everyone has been so nice and helpful. I know they clean the cages daily because I see them do it and they always make sure the animals have full food and water dishes. The staff is always talking to and petting the animals, cooing at them and giving them affection. It's really great to see.

I adopted a kitten several years ago from Stray Haven! I am hoping that by now their adoption policy has improved. I thought that "neutering" was their main goal. Wrong! My husband was a veterinarian and wanted to spay our own pet, which he did! Stray Haven advertised that a refund would be given when your animal was neutered. I was not able to receive a refund because I did not have THEIR vet spay my cat! To me, spaying is spaying and if that is really what they are trying to promote, it should have made no difference who did the surgery as long as there was a certificate showing proof of neutering. I ended up paying $40. For a kitten that should have cost $10. Wow! And the kitten was quite sick to boot! I was truly amazed to find out that Stray Haven had to control who did the spay----getting it done was not enough! I have never been back to Stray Haven since!

Friendly, Helpful staff. Amazing animals.

I visit stray haven often, to see what animals they have, and to talk to the staff. I personally have never adopted a pet from here yet, however once I meet the animals, if one of my friends is looking for a new dog or cat, I take them to meet the animal I think would best suit them. The staff have never been anything but kind and caring. They know the animals so well, and can tell you almost anything about them! The humane officers do a lot of work, saving animals in danger, and I commend them.

I do not agree with the person...

I do not agree with the person above. The folks at Stray Haven are simply wonderful and do a hard job for little pay. More than any other shelter I've visited, it's clear that the staff know each and every animal in their care. They are able to match folks with their dogs. At most shelters, the staff simply send you back to the kennels.

They also care deeply for their animals. I returned 4 years after adopting a dog, and one staff member remembered her clearly and was very interested to hear all the news about how she is doing.

The person who had a bad experience sounds unique. I take issue with her gratuitous insult about the staff not being able to read or brush their teeth. The people there are wonderful and qualified. Also, she should consider that one shouldn't throw stones while living in a glass house. I would venture to say that members of Stray Haven could write better piece than her heinously grammatically incorrect diatribe. While she may claim to be able to read, she certainly is unable to write above a 5th grade level. Note that one does not well convey meaning through missing and incorrect punctuation; run-on sentences; nonexistent paragraph structure; lack of capitalization; extremely unclear sentence structure; etc.

waverly, NY. stray haven, a wo...

waverly, NY. stray haven, a wonderful place i adopted a dog on the 2 week trial policy anyone who's had a puppy realizes 2 weeks is not long enough to begin with, so i give her 2 months, i have a very large fenced in yard that she is still trying to get out of to chase cars, the last time she got out she almost got hit by a car, the road i live on is speedy travel. rather than see her get hit by a car and realizing nothing is keeping her in the yard( we had gates built, we put extra posts in, we tried the dog runner, and the invisible fence) we decide to return her, my children went along to return her to tell her good bye, she is a very fun, loving dog. after 5 days my sister calls me to inform me that the stray haven staff is trashing me on the internet underneath the dogs picture not knowing the facts and making me sound like a bad parent and horrible pet owner, they dont know me, half of the staff looked as they probably are incapable of reading(or using a toothbrush) but if they want to form opinions and make them publicly known it should be mandatory that they have someone help them inquire facts first
