This grand historical building houses a 560-seat theater, which hosts an annual performing arts series. It is home to the Historical Center of York County and the Southern Revolutionary War Institute. The Historical Center provides opportunities for genealogical and historical research through extensive collections of documents, photographs, York County court records, microfilm reels of federal censuses and local newspapers, rare books, maps, church and cemetery indexes, family genealogical books and reference books.The McCelvey Center is the original site of the Yorkville Female Academy founded in 1852 and includes the 500-seat Lowry Family Theater. Noted for its remarkable acoustics, the historic theater has a warm ambiance and hosts the annual Southern Sound Series.
